Scrapper Kid!

So, for those of you who know me, you know I don't have any young peeps in the house anymore.  My kids are almost 25 and almost 30...wow, I feel old!  So, this weekend we went to visit family a few hours away, and came back with a temporary new addition!  Meet Kloe!  She is our 11 year old great niece (yep, feeling old again!)  She's hanging with us for the next week or two, and guess what?!  She LOVES crafts!  Oh yeah!  So we've been busy.  Here's Kloe working on her latest creation, a card for her Grammie.

And here's Miss Kloe with her finished product!  The cuts are from the Create A Critter Cricut cartridge.  Her Grammie is a Post Master, so Kloe thought the mailbox, stamp and Special Delivery sentiment (on the inside of the card) was perfect!  She Picked out all the colors for the card and all the cuts.  She's got a very artistic eye, just like her mom (who just so happens to be a graphic artist!)
Thanks for modeling, Kloe!!!

...And the Construction Continues!

I'm getting so excited!  The craft room re-do is coming right along.  The floor is in, and our awesome neighbor extraordinaire got the desk in yesterday!!  Woohoo!  If you have absolutely no idea what I'm talking about, read the first part of this story here

Here's the flooring and new trim. Yes, I know it's OSB board, but it's going to be amazing in the grand scheme of things. There's going to be a bit of an industrial feel to the room when it's finished. The floor has a smooth shiny surface on it that will be perfect for rolling all around in a chair, from one end of the desk to the other. And speaking of the desk...

Here's one end of it...

And here's the other end.  It goes the WHOLE length of the room and the "L" goes around the corner!!  No more running out of desk space when I have all my stuff pulled out!  And there's going to be lots of space underneath too!!!

The door has been cut in half to make a dutch door.  This way, the craft room can be a "no dog" room, but they can still peek over and see me if they need to.  I won't feel like I'm shutting them out of the room all the way!

I'll post another update when more stuff goes into the room.  I'm SOOOO excited!!!!

Pretty Purple Birthday Challenge

Today is Linda's birthday over at Fancy Framework!  She started a challenge on Monday, and for some reason, I missed it until today.  Her challenge was to make a birthday card that is:

1.  Purple  (totally easy for me since that's my fav color!)
2.  Has some bling
3.  Has some ribbon

This is what I came up with.  I really like the way this one turned out...totally cute!  I used some cuts and a cartridge that I hadn't tried before...it's always good to expand your horizons!

It's got six different shades of purple...my kind of card!!  The cute little zebra and the sentiment came from the Create-A-Critter Cricut cartridge, and the grass came from the Pop-Up Neighborhood cartridge.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY LINDA!!!

Operation: We R Grateful

Well here it is, almost another week has gone by without a post from me.  I'll get better!  It's usually hard just to shut me up!!  Haha!

Last weekend, Kassidy over at Inking It Up Krazy asked her followers to participate in a really awesome program called Operation: We R Grateful.  It's a program that sends blank handmade cards to the troops that are serving overseas, so that they may have the opportunity to send cards to their loved ones.  Click HERE for more info.

I thought this sounded great, and wanted to participate, so below, you'll see my entries.

Here's the card for chalenge # 1, Thinking of you.  I used the Paper Lace Cricut cartridge my sweet daughter got me for Christmas last year!

Here's the card for challenge #2, Birthday.  Once again I used the Paper Lace cartridge.  My daughter helped me pick out the colors to use on this card.

Aaaand here's challenge #3, Miss You.  I went to a Stampin Up! get together a few nights ago and we all made cards.  This is one of the ones I did.  I REALLY need to find some of these fibers!  (They're not from Stampin Up!)  If any of you have any leads, hook a sister up!!

Challenge #4 was a Hello card.  I finally found a hello sentiment on the Create-A-Critter cartridge.  That's where both of these cuts came from.

Here's challenge #5, a Love card.  I really like this cut!  It's from the Paper Lace cartridge.

Challenge #6 is a Get Well Card.  I used the Paper Lace Cartridge AGAIN...go figure!

Challenge #7 was a Thank You card.  My daughter picked out the colors for this card too.  I love her eye for color!  Can you possibly guess what cartridge was used!?!?

Okay, I'll try to get over my Paper Lace kick for a while...Notice, I said, "I'll TRY."  No promises :)

Room Update and Another Challenge

So, the craft room redo is coming along just fine and dandy.  You can scroll down a few posts and see the pics below if you haven't yet.  The painting is pretty much done, and most of the floor is in.  It will need to be sealed with shellac and then have to cure for seven days.  So things will be going a little slower than I hoped, but that's okay.  It will still be amazing when it's done!  I'll post more pics when the floor is in.  It will be unlike any I've ever seen!

Now on to the challenge!  First off, I must say that I was overwhelmed by all the comments and kind words I received from all the Celebrate the Occasion Design Team for my entry last week.  It was so sweet for you all to come hang out on my little blog for a while!  And now, for my entry...

This is for Celebrate The Occasion's Challenge #18.  The challenge was to make a birthday card that included a hat.  I cut the birthday hat from Create-A-Critter Cricut Cartridge, and the "party" came from their Designer's Calendar cartridge.  I love the colors!!

I am also entering this card in the My Pink Stamper birthday card challenge.  Fun fun!!

FCCB Challenge # 64

Hi peeps!  I just finished a card I want to enter in Fantabulous Cricut Challenge Blog's Wedding Wishes Challenge.  Here ya go!

The challenge included bells and the color white.  I actually found the bells and the roses on the Quarter Note Cricut Cartridge.  I used Martha Stewart Glitter in Cotton Candy to line the bells and then liquid pearls on the clappers.  Now...if I only knew somebody getting married, I would be all set!

Have You Checked Out The Blog Candy Page Lately?

Well, you should because there's LOTS of new and yummy stuff in there!  Here's just one example of what you'll find:

This is Jessica's blog candy over at Chick-n-Scrap   She's celebrating 300 followers, but since she posted this candy a week ago, she's almost at 400!  Hmmm...she may be on to something!

Craft Room Redeux

I probably spelled that wrong, but the title is trying to say that my craft room "re-do" is underway!  YAY!!!  I figured I would post a pic or two every now and then to keep you up to date.

Here are some BEFORE pics that I took the other night.  I forgot to take them until we had already started clearing some of the little stuff out of the room, so please ignore the mess...it's usually not quite that bad!

This is a little nook that used to be a closet.  The computer desk was situated in here.  Notice the really dark brown paint on the walls?

This is the desk I did all my scrapping on...a really beat up old computer desk.  Notice it was right up against the window AND had two lamps on it?  Can you say, "new lighting?"

Old bookshelves with the majority of my supplies in them.  All my paper is still in it's packages or pads, and most everything else in in labeled plastic storage where I couldn't really see it.  If you look closely in the upper left-hand corner of the glass shelves, you can see the reflection of the sub-par lighting in the room...an OLD fixture with two CFL bulbs.

My easel and tripod had no place to go.  The rest of the supplies were kept in the drawers or on the shallow shelving unit.  And it all sat on really old carpet that was actually cream color at one time...many years ago!

So...that was it.  I was actually quite proud of it.  It was a space of my own, even with it's mis-matched furniture and bad lighting.  It was where I spent most of my day, either crafting or sitting in the rocking chair on the computer.  It had been my daughter's room when she was little (painted lavender back then) and then my son's room when he temporarily moved back home a few years ago (since his sister had long since taken over his bigger room when he moved out!)  They're both grown and gone now, but I think I just felt my kids in there with me sometimes.  The room made me smile.

So now, the room is completely empty.  My neighbors spent the weekend over here painting and doing all sorts of cool things.   So here's some of the DURING pictures showing what they've done so far...

This isn't the best representation of the color, but the walls have been repainted and the color makes me happy!  It's sort of blue, sort of grey and sort of periwinkle as the light changes!  And speaking of light...

WOOHOO!!!!  New lighting!  I'm really starting to dig the industrial feel in there!  It's going to be "center of the sun" bright in there now!  The lighting is really awesome though because it's SUPER bright, but doesn't hurt your eyes...and doesn't distort color.  How awesome will that be when I'm trying to put colors together on a card or layout?

Okay, that's all I have for now.  I hear the flooring is going in next, so more pics coming soon!

On a side note, thank you so much for all the sweet comments everyone has been leaving lately.  Now I understand why all of us bloggers take the extra time to do what we do...because all the positive feedback feels wonderful!  Thank you!

I'm A Scrapping Fool!

Okay, here we go again!  I have yet another card to show you and another challenge to enter it in!  Then I think I'll be done for a little while!

This submission is for the Weekly Challenge at the Cricut Circle Blog.  They asked for a project with your favorite summertime sweet treat on it, and at least two Cricut cuts.  I decided to make mine toasted marshmallows!  I guess I could have gone a little further and and figured out a way to do s'mores, but the marshmallows were hard enough.  Do you know how hard it is to write on fluffy cotton with a sparkly gel pen?!?  Ha ha!

I used two Cricut cartridges; Create-A-Critter for the fire and tree branch, and Home Decor And More for the word "enjoy."

I hope you "enjoy" the card!!

A Couple of Challenges

First of all, sorry for the lack of "deals" posts that some of our regular readers come here for.  I just haven't found ANY killer deals this week.  So sad!  Hopefully the craft stores will start getting revved up for the Fourth of July sales soon!  I love to shop, but what I even love more is getting an unbeatable deal!

There's a little excitement on the home front over here... we have some INCREDIBLE neighbors that we love dearly, who are about to do something UBER awesome for me!  They like to go on vacations when they can, and since they only live two houses up from us, we house sit and dog sit for them when they're gone.  They have three huge lovable cuddly dogs, just like we do, so it's always a lot of fun!  (Plus they have cable tv, and we don't, so it gives me a chance to indulge in the Extreme Couponing show on TLC while I'm snuggling with their puppies!)  Anyway, in lieu of monetary payment for watching the pups, they are building me a CRAFT ROOM!!!  I can't even begin to tell you how stoked I am!!  I took "before" pics last night, and I will keep you up on the progress!

Now, back to your regularly scheduled program!  I made a cute card for hubby for Father's Day.  Let's just hope he doesn't check the blog between now and then!  Ha ha!  He's been working hard on compost for our garden lately, so I just had to echo that in the card!

I used Walk in My Garden and Designer's Calendar Cricut cartridges, along with some solid color cardstock.  Oh and of course, one of my new favorites, the white Gelly Roll pen!

I'm entering this card in Celebrate the Occasion's Challenge # 17.

I'm also entering it in Fantabulous Cricut Challenge Blog's Challenge Me Monday #1 Dads Challenge.  Wow...I just said challenge three times in one sentence!

Have a fun and scrappy day!  Wow...did that sound cheesey?

Playing Around!

Okay, first of all, this isn't the project entry for the Cricut Magazine that I've been talking about the past few days.  That should be coming tomorrow or Thursday.  I still have to take some decent pics first.  One of these days, I WILL have a digital SLR camera...sigh.

One of my favorite scrapping friends, Sarah, came over yesterday to play!  She's an amazing talent with stamping.  Well...I introduced her to Mr. Cricut and Cuttlebug folders!  I think I have her hooked!  Here's what she came up with.  She had her daughter's first birthday party invitations in mind...

She was on the fence about whether or not she liked the card.  Then I grabbed it from her and showed her the virtues of a Gelly Roll pen (thanks Maquel from Paper Maine-iac!! for teaching me!)  I think she's going to be running out to buy one or two of those ASAP!

See ya tomorrow!

Yay!

I've spent four days off and on working on the Cricut Magazine challenge I talked about yesterday.  Now I'm FINALLY done!  I've never spent that much time on a scrapbook page before!  Actually, I think it's going to be a wall hanging...it's WAY to puffy and 3-D to ever fit inside a scrapbook.  Maybe I can find a shadowbox frame for it.  Anyway, pics coming soon!  Keep your fingers crossed for me!

ACK!!

I just realized I haven't posted in a week!  How sad!  I promise to try to post something every day!!!  I've been busy working on a project to enter in a contest held by the Cricut Circle.  The winner gets their project published in Cricut Magazine and a new Cricut E2...sigh.  I want one I want one I want one!  Anyway, unlike the usual quick cards or scrapbook layouts, this one has taken me days!  And I'm STILL working on it!  I'm having a blast though!

I've also been blog hopping like crazy since yesterday morning.  There's seem to be a lot of hops this weekend!  And so many of them are offering some amazing blog candy!

Oh, speaking of blog candy, make sure to check out my blog candy page.  I'm updating it several times a week, and there's lots of new stuff in there.  If you see something that's expired, it's just because a winner hasn't been announced yet.  Once a winner is announced, the picture and link will go away.  You can find the blog candy link on the left side of my page on the little scissors.  Aren't the scissors adorable?  My brilliant daughter-in-law said she created them especially for me...they're one-of-a-kind!  I keep wondering when she's going to open up a web design business, but between running a medical lab at a university, teaching a college class part time, working on her MBA, writing THREE blogs of her own, and taking excellent care of my son, she just can't seem to find the time...hmmm  ;)
