SMASH*aholics UNITE!!

All I can say is OMG!  As many of you who read my post about Swagbucks know, I recently jumped on the Smashbook bandwagon.  I ordered some books and goodies from Amazon.  I looked through everything, I organized it, I tried doing a page or two, then I just sat and stared at it.  Smashing is super simple, but for some reason, I just wasn't sure where to start.  I wanted to do a book about me...but what am I supposed to say or write about?

Then...the other day I was on Facebook and found THE most awesome group ever!!!  You can find them on Facebook by searching SMASH*aholics.  These peeps are some serious smashers!!!!  They have all been posting pics of absolutely beautiful pages they've made.  I've had SO MUCH inspiration,  that I am now officially Smashing like a maniac!!!!  If you're on Facebook, go check them out!  It's an open group, you just need to click the button to send a request to get in.

PS...I think I'm finally starting to feel better, thank goodness!  I plan to be back on here pretty quick, with a vengance!  Woohoo!

Samantha's Cricut Creations 1st Anniversary Blog Hop

Welcome to Samantha's Cricut Creations 1st anniversary blog hop!

If you have just hopped on the tour, please go to Samantha's blog at http://www.samanthascricutcreations.blogspot.com to start at the beginning. If you have arrived from Tess' blog then you are in the right place.

The hop theme today is crafty anniversary.

I decided to make Samantha a card for her celebration.  It went through many designs and colors before it ended up like this!  I used the font on Paper Lace and welded it with my Gypsy (LOVE the way the Paper Lace font welds together!)   Then I cut some circles and the little spools for the twine, by hand, and viola!  Super easy super cute card!

Well folks, I'm the end of the line on today's hop, so if you made it this far, THANK YOU!  And t hanks for hopping along with us today!

Hi peeps.  I just wanted to check in and let you know that I've been a sickie (not sicko!) for over a week now.  Every time I think it's starting to let up, it gets worse.  I've missed blog hops, and haven't answered hardly any comments.  I promise to make all that up when I'm back to 100%.

See you soon!

What's On Your Workdesk Wednesday #136

EDIT:  Blogger must have awakened in a good mood...it finally let me post my desk pics!!

Good morning WOYWWers!!!  Happy Wednesday!  This is the first WOYWW I've been able to participate in for quite a while, and certainly the first one this year.  I had my desk filled to the brim with calendars I was making for my kids for Christmas, and since they occassionally read my blog, I didn't want to post pics that would give anything away.  Now that the holidays are behind us, I wrote several posts showing pics of the calendars.  Scroll down a few posts if you want to see how they came out!
And now that I can FINALLY participate again, Blogger isn't letting me upload any pics...what?!?!?  You must be kidding!!!!  How can you see what's on my workdesk if I can't post a pic of it?!?!  Grrr!  I'm going to keep writing and hope that it will be nice to me before I finish this post.  I've heard of this happening, but it's the first time it's ever happened to me :(

I've been doing some Smashing and working on a project for a 70's blog hop I'm participating in this weekend.  I have lots of concert ticket stubs from way back then (yes, I'm old!)  and I'm putting them in their very own Smash book.  I wish you could see my Smashy mess!
EDIT:  And now that Blogger is working, you can!  Woohoo!  This is actually a homemade smashbook that I started before I got the real thing.  I just took an old wirebound journal thing apart, added some nice papers, and put it back together...instant concert ticket book!  Come back this weekend if you want to see more of the project!

Well, I have tried restarting my computer, posting my pics somewhere else to try to transfer...nothing is working...I'm sad!  I'm going to go ahead and post this anyway....hopefully I can participate fully next week!  I've really missed you guys!!

Have a great Wednesday!!!

Another Christmas Gift

***For those of you who missed the cool Swagbucks post, Click HERE or scroll down a post!***

Hi blogistas!  I have another cute project I forgot to show you that was done over Christmas.  Actually this one was my daughter's creation (with a little help from yours truly!)  She made a box for her boyfriend with a lift ticket in it for his Christmas present.  We were trying to figure out how to present it to him in a cute way, and this is what we came up with!  This was the first time I had ever tried flocking.  It came out SO cute!  We flocked the white paper that the little snowboarder is standing on and then we flocked light blue paper (with white flocking) for the mountains in the background.  We used a punch from Martha Stewart for the extra snowflakes, and then of course the Everyday Paper Dolls cartridge for the cute little snowboarder (fashioned to look like her boyfriend) and his accessories.  And who can forget the Peachy Keen stamps for his adorable face!!  I just love those stamps!!
More later...have an awesome day!!

For Those of You Who Are New Here...

Welcome!!!  I haven't posted this in a while, so I thought it was worth another run!

Ready for Another Secret?

One of the ways I have been able to get my hands on cheap or FREE scrapbooking goodies, is through a cool little search engine called SWAGBUCKS. The Swagbucks search engine is a staple in the couponing world. You do searches on swagbucks (either their page or a handy little toolbar you can install, which I highly recommend) that basically uses Google search. Now, I really don't do a lot of searches, but I have gotten into the habit of typing in whatever site I need to go to, like Hotmail or Facebook. While doing searches, you are randomly awarded swackbucks...a form of currency you can exchange for all kinds of prizes. I always use my swagbucks to purchase Amazon gift cards. 450 swagbucks will get you a $5 card to spend at Amazon.com. Not much you say? Well, here's a few things I got with mine over the past couple of years...

Edit:  Since the last time I posted this, I have saved up enough Swagbucks to get these:
And a second blue Smash Book (I gave the first one away) with a few accessories (and numerous Christmas gifts!):

It's The LAST Of The Calendar Pages!

I swear it is!!  At least until next year maybe?  Haha!  Okay, let's get to it!  We have November and December to see today!

First up is daughter's November page.    I found this adorable little turkey and the title on the Create-A-Critter cartridge.  I didn't think I have much of anything Thanksgiving related...who knew?!  Now I'll be primed and ready for Thanksgiving cards next year!  (Haha...who am I fooling...I couldn't even get Christmas cards made this year!)

Okay, I'm not gonna lie, Son and DIL kind of got ripped off on their November page!  It was five days before Christmas, I still had to send their calendar across the country and keep my fingers crossed that they would get it in time (they did!!) and this was the last page of theirs to finish.  THEN I had nine more pages on my daughter's calendar to do!  So this page was awash with panic and a tad rushed!  I still found a paper I thought they would like, (DIL loves to bake with pumpkin, so I thought she might like this one) and I inked the white corded "ribbon" to match the page...and even found some paper in my stash with music notes on it since son is a musician.  I like how it turned out in the end!

Okay, December was one of my favorite pages!  Both the pages are really similar with a few differences based on personal tastes.

Here's the page I made for Son and DIL.  I thought it came out really cute!!  Most everything is cut from the Paper Doll Dress Up cartridge except the title.  It's from Winter Frolic.  I used Peachy Keen stamps for the faces, and velvet ribbon on the picture mats.  The tree is decorated in buttons and Stickles, and the presents were fussy cut from a page out of one of my DCWV stacks.

And last but not least, here's daughter's December page.  Same cuts and same general idea, but with some different background paper and colors.  I used glittery ribbon on her picture mats and bling on her tree.  Her page almost turned out VERY different!  I had also cut out sleighs for both pages, but couldn't make them fit on there without everything being way too crowded.  At one point, hubby came in to "help" me.  He had the reindeer up at the top of the page flying the sleigh, Santa was holding on for dear life, and the elf and all the presents were falling to their certain death!  I must admit, if I hadn't already put a smiley face on the elf, I would have given him a surprised expression and probably have just gone with it!!  Instead, the elf just got to ride on the reindeer's back!!

For those who are interested, there's just a few more details to the calendars that I forgot to take pics of.  After they were put together and bound, I made an envelope for each and put it on the back of the December page.  It had cut outs (from the Designer's Calendar cartridge) of all kinds of odds and ends events.  I made icons for extra birthdays, vacations, camping trips, date nights, game nights, coffee dates...anything I could think of that I hadn't already put on the calendar.  That way, they have extra little squares to mark those days on their calendars.  And when the year is over, they simply take the calendars apart, and they each have a ready-made scrapbook!
I hope you liked seeing all of my pages.  Even though there was a little panic at the end, I really had a blast making them and spending all that time thinking about the fact that I have the BEST son, daughter, and daughter-in-law in the world.  I'm one lucky Mommy!

Aaaaaaand Some More Calendar Pages!

I really need to think up some witty titles for my posts huh?  Haha!!  So, we've come to the month of October...the BEST month of course, since it's hubby's and my birthday month!  Woohoo!

I'm going a little backwards today, starting with daughter's page first.  I made a two-page layout a few months back for a blog hop I was in, and daughter really loved it.  So I did something similar here (in case you thought you had seen this somewhere before!)  The cute little creatures were from Paper Doll Dress Up, and their adorable little (mostly hidden) faces are from Peachy Keen Stamps.  The title cut is another winner from the Phrases cartridge...that's an awesome cart!!

Son's and DIL's page was very different.  I won some really awesome Halloween paper from Kaiser Craft a while back during the Link Up For Pink celebration, and I thought it would be perfect for this page.  It came with the die-cut center paper, and the transparencies.  It also came with rub-ons which I attempted on the very bottom center of the page.  I have since determined that I am NOT a rub-on girl!!!   I don't know if I was doing them wrong (but really, how many ways can there be to do them???) or what the story was, but the tiny bit I got done took forever and was a literal pain in the neck!  Haha!  No more rub-ons!
I hope you like today's pages!  I'm planning on wrapping things up tomorrow with November's and December's pages...see you then!!

Oh Geez, More Calendar Pages?

The answer is YES!!  Hope you're not getting too sick of seeing all of these pages yet, and if you are, just remember, there's only 12 months in a year...and we're on month NINE!  Haha!!

Allllrighty then, I need to preface this page just a little.  I live near Seattle.  I am a Seahawks fan.  The Seahawks have been to the Superbowl once....ever.  It was awesome...it was amazing...we were going to win.  That is, until the "Steelers" came in and stole the game (which is why I now refer to them as the Stealers, not Steelers!)  I think a ref was paid off...who can say for sure.  Yes, It was several years ago.  Yes, I should have gotten over it by now...but I haven't.   With that being said, guess where my beautiful, talented, smart, whitty daughter-in-law is from?  Pittsburgh...the home of the Pittsburgh Stealers.  And guess who's the BIGGEST Stealers fan in the whole world?  Yuuuup...my daughter-in-law.  Sigh...

So, the page you're about to see is a HUGE testament to how much I love my DIL...I even spelled the name of the "team" the way she would want me to...UHG!

They live in Texas, so in case you hadn't noticed yet, my son is a Cowboys fan (although I know he'll always love the Seahawks deep down too!)

So this was actually the hardest page for me to make of all of them...not because I had to spell Stealers "right" (haha!) but because I had a heck of a time making the logo.  The Cowboys logo was easy, but I had a tough time with the Stealers one.  I wish Cricut would come out with a cartridge of NFL team logos!  Of course if the did, the licensing fees would probably run the cost of the cartridge up to $200 or something crazy like that!!

So, I'm sure you'll all understand, that when it came time to make my daughter's football page, I wasn't about to try to piece toghether the Seahawks logo on the Cricut...have you seen that thing?  She just got Seahawk's colors!

I used the Father's day cartridge for the football and helmet, but had to do some extra layering to make it look the way I wanted it to.  The font is from the Designer's Calendar cartridge (thanks Rexann!) and it was welded together on my Gypsy.
See ya tomorrow!!!!

Okay, Back to Business!

Good morning bloggers!!  I hope today finds you rested and refreshed.  It's time to get back to the business of crafting and blogging...for me anyway.  So today I have another post on the calendars I made for my kids for Christmas.  You can scroll down to last week's posts if you missed any of the other months so far, and are interested in seeing them.

For the months of July and August, I made the kid's pages almost identical.  I just found something that worked and rolled with it!  The background paper for July was some handmade paper that came in huge 2x4 foot sheets. We found it at an AWESOME art shop in the University District in Seattle, that my daughter took me to a while back.  The blue paper has stars cut out, and you can see the green paper peeking through from the other side.  If you turn it over, the page is green with blue stars peeking through...very cool!  The word, "freedom" was cut from the Graphically speaking cartridge, and the kids were cut from A Child's Year.  I never really thought I would have much use for that cartridge since my kids are all grown, but it amazes me how much I love it and use it!

August made me think of camping trips, and this is the page that materialized!  I really love how it came out!  The background paper is from Bo Bunny and the reverse side is the wood grain pattern that I made the tree and logs with.  Of course there's lots of little critters camping and roasting marshmallows too!  Most of the cuts are from the Create-A-Critter cartridge,  and the tree is from Everyday Paper Dolls.  A little twine on the picture mats completes the outdoorsy look!

If you're a football fan, make sure to come back tomorrow to see what I did for the September pages!!
See ya then!
