Is It A Purse...Or a Birthday Card?

Or is is both!?   I used my Crafter's Companion Ultimate Tool to make this charming little blue with green polka dot card, shaped like a purse for my lovely daughter's birthday last week.  Since Emily is such a fashionista, the card was a huge hit!

Here's a close-up of the flap of the "purse."  I made the flowers out of Ric Rac using tutorials I found on Pinterest...there's tons of them out there!

One thing I learned in the process, is that not all ric rac is created equal!  The yellow, shown above, was some REALLY old ric rac I got at Goodwill.  I'm sure it was old because the price was printed on the packaging, and was only 15 cents for the package!  When was the last time you could buy anything crafty for 15 cents?    The ric rac was softer and more "material" feeling.  Then the green was some I got on a killer deal at Costco a few months ago.  It was much more stiff and felt more like nylon.  I wasn't able to "braid" the green ric rac like the instructions called for, so I was only able to make small rosettes out if it.  I'm still super happy with how everything came out as a whole!

On an even closer look, you can see another angle of the flowers, and more detail.  I used a Martha Stewart punch for the edging, and some tiny Imaginesce heat activated bling for a touch of sparkle.

The card opens just like a purse!

...and inside is where you can leave your message.

I stamped a piece of blue cardstock with some adorable cupcake stamps and Versamark ink to give the paper a watermarked look.  Then I printed a birthday itinerary with a list of some of the surprises in store for the birthday girl that day!  I folded and tacked down the paper so that it would lay flat when the purse is closed, and pop open when it's time to see the inside!

You should really give this little cutie a try!  Let me know if you do!
