Tin foil and waxed paper are inexpensive fixes and work great! If your punches are starting to dull and you're getting frayed edges or cuts that aren't super clean, take a piece of aluminum foil (I fold mine into a few layers) and punch away! The aluminum sharpens your blades beautifully!
If your punches start to stick or not glide freely (or if you're quasi-dorky like me and punch stuff that's been taped with super sticky tape...oops!) then do the same thing with waxed paper. Fold it over a few times, and punch punch punch! The wax will lubricate the metal on your punches, and they'll be good as new in no time!
