New Weekly Feature: Money Saving Monday #1

Hi Gang!  Welcome to the first-ever edition of Money-Saving Monday. I'm starting this new weekly feature as an additional way to help us all save money on our crafting addiction supplies.  Some weeks, it may be a great sale, and other weeks, it might just be a great tip or idea.  It may be something that will save you tons of cash, or maybe just a few pennies, but even a few pennies adds up over time!

So, today's tip?  Baby food jars!  That's right...these little gems have become a staple in my craft room organization.  I begged and pleaded with some of my friends who had babies, for their leftover food jars, and wound up with lots of them.  I washed them, removed the labels and gooey adhesive with Goof Off, and then painted the lids with two coats of 97 cent-a-can silver spray paint from Wal-Mart.  Viola!  A perfect storage jar for buttons, embellishments, paper clips...you name it! I've seen jars very similar at Michaels,  Ikea, and other places, and they usually want several dollars per jar...which REALLY adds up when you have over 75 a bunch of them like I do!  I've made something very similar and just as functional,  for only pennies (when you include the cost of the Goof Off and spray paint.)

Don't have any friends with babies?  You could actually STILL save significant moola by buying the baby food when it's on sale, using it in your cooking, (veggies go great in spaghetti sauce and give you an extra boost of nutrition...and really, after all, they're just unseasoned vegetables.) and then using the jars as described above!

Do you have a money-saving tip or trick in your crafting arsenal?  I would love to hear about it!  Please use the contact page to email me, and maybe I can feature your blog and tip on a future Money-Saving Monday post!

Happy Scrapping! ~Amy E

This is a great tip for organizing all those little bits and pieces we use in crafting. And I'll bet if a person posted a request for empty baby food jars on Freecycle, they'd be able to get all the jars they could possibly want.

Great new feature on your blog!! I have a neighbor with a baby and we have asked her to save her baby food jars for crafts for the daycare kids, we are also going to ask her to save her beer caps for crafts as well, saves us having to go and buy the supplies!! Can't wait to see what else you have up your sleeve for your blog!!

Great idea! I also get baby food jars from a girlfriend who loves the baby sausages. Bleck! But it's good for me! Hadn't thought about adding the veggies to sauces, you know I love that idea
