Happy Saturday! Welcome to the weekly edition of The Saturday Spotlight. Today, we're shining the spotlight on Susie from Susie Craft Happy. I actually met Susie when I won a blog candy she sponsored on one of the design teams she used to be on. She sent me the prize I won, a Joann's gift card (ah, a girl after my own heart!) and I went to her blog to thank her. I fell in love with her work, and made a new friend in the process. You see, Susie is the greatest kind of AWESOME!
I grabbed a few quotes from Susie during a chat. All of Susie's words are in blue.
"I’ve been blogging for about 6 months. A fellow crafter has a blog and I would show her pictures of my cards and projects on my phone and she said, 'you should start a blog'…so I did. Blogging has been both challenging and rewarding at the same time. I don’t think I knew what to expect from blogging or what I would get out of it, but I knew I wanted to share my creations and more than that, keep a record of my progress."
Susie started paper crafting only 16 months ago. A co-worker shared a picture of a center piece she’d made for her son’s football team. She used the cartridge, Twinkle Toes to make these cute little cheerleader girls and the girls were all shades and Susie just loved that. She's been hooked ever since. Susie used some gift cards that had been given to her, to purchase her first Cricut. She was enamored and wound up with three more Cricuts in a six month period! On a whim she submitted a card to Northridge Publishing.
In Susie's words, "It was the first and only thing I’d ever submitted for publication and it was picked up by them. I couldn't believe it. I couldn't believe it! The card I submitted is in the current (September 2012) issue of Cricut Magazine."
So this isn't at all surprising to me. When Susie decides she wants to accomplish something, nothing stops her. Her story truly inspired me...especially at my age...gah!
"After finishing college at 41 and having older children, I found myself with a good bit of down time so I set out to get healthy and realized I liked food…really good food. So instead of dieting, I went the other route and starting running. That allowed me to continue to eat like a 16 year old and stay healthy. I started with a couch to 5k program on my iPod and in less than a year I ran my first half marathon in under 3 hours. It was an exciting time for me because I was never really a runner. The time I trained included the loss of a month due to a knee injury. I’ve run a number of 5ks and 10ks and fun runs too and although I still run today, it's not nearly as much as I used to.
I really enjoy this crafty world. The people I have met personally and virtually are so dear to me. I really feel I could do this forever. My aspiration is to open a small gift and cards store someday. Oh, and to all my midnight crafters…yes, I’ll sell coffee!"

On a personal note, Susie has been such an inspiration to me. In just a short time crafting and blogging, she's already been published and made it on to TWO major design teams. She's so humble about it and even a little bit shy, claiming that it must be a fluke. I don't think it's a fluke...I think she's found her calling. Go take a peek for yourself and let me know what you think. Better yet...leave her some love and let HER know what you think!
Until next week...
