WOYWW #182

Please click HERE for the All About Me blog hop!

Happy Tuesday/Wednesday!  Welcome to What's On Your Workdesk Wednesday!  Time to take a snoop   peek at craft desks around the world!

My desk is a little sparse this week after all the flurry surrounding the opening of my friend's comic book store the past few weeks.  I posted pics of some of the things I made for them HERE.  Then, after I took the pics and posted for WOYWW last week, I made some superhero cards for my friends' shop...30 of them...IN ONE DAY!  I thought I was gonna die! I've never spit out cards (or anything else for that matter) that fast!  I really should have taken a picture of my desk AFTER that mess...it was BAD!   I'll post all the cards later this week, if you're interested in seeing them. Although I'm not a big comic book buff, I think they turned out really cute.

One thing I realized when I was in a flurry of cardstock and adhesive is that I was starting to run out of room on my desk...and I have a big desk, so that's not easy to do!!  So sweet husband put some more shelves up for me on a wall that was previously empty...the last empty space in my room!

I was able to get my Cricut machines and some ink shelves off my desk, to give me more room on it.  I just realized his hammer and other work tools are still in this pic!  Oops!

Don't forget to hunt for the WOYWW badge/button this week, if that's your thing.  I made it easy for those of you who are still in a Thanksgiving turkey coma!

All About Me Blog Hop

Happy Tuesday!  Welcome to the All About Me blog hop!   If you're hopping with us, you should have arrived here from Robin's blog.  If not, but decide you want to join in, you're welcome to start at Shelley's blog.  Go check it out...she has some great blog candy!!

So, right up front, I must tell you that making a layout about myself is always a challenge for me, like it probably is for most of you.  We wrap ourselves up in our families and especially in our children, and sometimes forget our own identity in the process.   Although making a page about yourself, or doing a little journaling, isn't always easy, it does always make us stop and examine things about us just a little.  Who am I?  What do I like?  What identifies me?  Not always comfortable questions to answer but certainly therapeutic in the long run!

For my project, I decided to a two-page layout in my Smash*book.  I love Smashing and have several books.  I've decided to devote one entire book to being just about me.  I figured that one of these days, when I'm long gone, it will be a priceless memento for my kids.  My mother left a journal when she passed, and we wouldn't trade it for anything.

My favorite color is purple, and I love purples and blues together, so that's the predominant colors I chose to work with. Since I'm a musician, I chose to use the music quotes and the guitar stamp.  I was married in the winter, thus the cute snowman cutout.  The butterflies?  I just thought they were pretty!

This was a built-in question page in the Smash*book, so I just filled in the answers...easy as pie!

I found a few stickers with descriptive "me" words and added them to the mix.

I hope you liked this little piece of me!  Miranda is next.  I've included the whole line up below, just in case you need it!

The Silhouette store shocked a bunch of people with their Black Friday specials, which continue through November 30, 2012.  Many bloggers are able to offer the Silhouette Cameo WITH a copy of the Silhouette Studio Designer's Edition software for only $229.99!!!!!!  I really wish I would have known about that deal when I bought my machine last month! You can also get the new Portrait machine for only $179.99.

Silhouette is also offering 40% off most other things in their store (some exclusions apply.)  That means you could get the Designer software for $30 or a 10 foot roll of vinyl for $6!!!!  What?!?!

Money-Saving Monday #14

Happy Monday morning to you and welcome to another edition of Money-Saving Monday!  Since the holiday shopping season has begun for many of us, I thought I would try to incorporate it into this week's tip.  I did my share of Black Friday shopping last week and picked up a few presents.  Several of the items were relatively small and odd-shaped, and needed a box.  What to do?  Turn to your scrap supplies, of course!

I have some DCWV Christmas and Winter stacks I bought last year and decided to use some of the cardstock in them to make some boxes to fit my presents.  Above, you'll see two green boxes, and two blue ones.  I used plain black cardstock for the bottoms of each box.

I used my Crafter's Companion Ultimate Tool to make the box tops and bottoms, although you could use any scoreboard or even do it by hand.  I plan on wrapping a ribbon around these little cuties, finishing off with a bow, and voila...done!

Now, I realize you can go to most any discount store and buy boxes, but just think of it this way; I'm using cardstock I may not otherwise use for a layout or card,  and I'm saving money by not buying boxes.  Saving money on gift boxes = more $$$ for scrapbooking supplies!!  It's a win/win all the way around!!

If you have any money-saving tips or tricks you would like to share, please email me using my contact page.  Your tip and blog may be featured on a future edition of Money-Saving Monday!

Superhero Scrapbooker Saves The Day!

Happy Sunday evening to you!  I hope you all had a great weekend, and all of you in the US had a fabulous Thanksgiving!  I think I've fixed my Blogger/Picasa/pictures issue for now...or at least put a band-aid on it.  (See the post below this one if you have no idea what I'm talking about.)  It's probably going to take me a month or more to fix it the way it needs to be fixed..at least the way I figured out how to do it.  I'm manually re-sizing each picture I EVER posted on Blogger, and then taking off the old larger pics and replacing each with the smaller pics...post....by.......post........  I think I currently have 252 posts to do that with.  I'm going to be a busy girl.  The moral of this story?  Make your photos small before you publish them to Blogger.

Okay, as I've been blathering on about for weeks, some friends of mine opened a comic book store in our local mall. These are all people the same age as my "kids" so I'm incredibly proud of them in a very motherly way!!  I wanted to do something nice for them, so I made them a card and a grand opening banner.  In the pic above, you'll see what the mall entrance to their store looks like.  Can you spot Spiderman being sneaky???  I made the banner that's hanging below the words, "comics & coffee."

Below is a closer view of the banner.  It was a little longer than it should have been, so we cinched it up in the middle. Although it's hard to see from this view, the banner is made from a bunch of little Superman capes strung together.   Each cape has the little "S" logo and a letter done in the same font as their store sign and logo.

Next is a Superman card I made congratulating them on their opening.

I asked if there was any vinyl for the walls or anything like that I could help with, and they told me they needed signage for the shelves, showing where each type of comic is.  This is where I REALLY must tell you how much I completely ADORE my new Silhouette Cameo!!  I had SO MUCH FUN playing around with it and making all the signs you see below.  I was able to import and use my own fonts for the lettering, and I bought one image (the "pow bubble" behind the letters) for 99 cents at the Silhouette store and used it over and over in different colors.  I LOVE that machine!  It cuts like a dream!!

Here are the front and back sides of the DC Comics sign.  I used the same 5 colors, but just moved them around

I did the same thing with the sign for their independent comic book shelf.

Marvel only had one side since it is hanging on the wall, and Vertigo was the same on both sides since I was emulating (loosely!) their logo.

Here's a view from the back of the grand opening sign as you're walking out the store.  It says, "See Ya Soon!"  The two little green things on the end are supposed to be Kryptonite, but once they were hung up, I thought they looked more like pics of marijuana leaves!!!  They crew loved them though and totally got that they were Kryptonite!!

I hope you enjoyed your tour around Great Escape Coffee & Comics!  If you're local, be sure to stop by the Kitsap Mall for a coffee, and a friendly hello!!  I'll be back later in the week with some more superhero cards I made for them,

Happy Scrapping! ~Amy E

Holy UGH Batman!!

Hi fantastic blogger peeps.  I was working on FINALLY posting all the pics of the stuff I've been working on for my friends' comic book store.  But I guess Blogger has other ideas.  Apparently, I have exceeded the storage capacity for all of my pictures.  I take them in the best quality, so they are huge...but now Blogger is not going to let me upload any more unless I agree to pay a monthly fee for more Picasa storage.

Newsflash: that's not happening!

So other than deleting old posts or pictures, or manually going in and resizing everything for the last year and a half, post by post, does anybody else know how to fix this problem?  I would LOVE any advice you could possibly give so that I can start posting again!  I have SO MUCH to show you!

WOYWW #181

Happy Tuesday/Wednesday to you all!!!  Welcome to What's On Your Workdesk Wednesday!  This is our weekly tour of work desks all over the world.  It's so much fun to see what everyone is working on!!

This week finds my desk a disaster! You're only seeing half of it in the picture...the other half is worse!  I FINALLY learned to use my new Silhouette Cameo, and I have to tell you, I am in LOVE!!!  It cuts like a dream!!  I've been cutting a banner and tons of signage for some friends who just opened up a local comic book store.  Now I'm working on making a few cards for them to put in their shop...thus the massive amounts of cardstock scraps everywhere!!

Can you find the WOYWW button/badge?  Happy Wednesday!!

Money-Saving Monday: Black Friday Edition

Happy Monday and happy Thanksgiving week to all of you in the USA!  Turkey day is this Thursday, and then one of my favorite "holidays" happens the next day...Black Friday!  This is a shopping day extraordinaire to all of us frugal bargain hunters! I thought I would dedicate today's Money-Saving Monday, as well as a few other posts this week to helping you find some great bargains this week!

For today, let's concentrate on Michael's Black Friday sales.  I'll work on some other stores throughout the week.

Michaels has three coupons out for your entire purchases Thursday through Saturday

Thursday November 22 - 30% off your entire purchase 4 pm - 11 pm.
Friday November 23 - 25% off your entire purchase 7 am - noon.
Saturday November 24 - 20% off your entire purchase 8 am - noon.

Since this post is about Black Friday, I'm going to be concentrating on giving you prices using Friday's 25% off coupon. Personally, I'm not crazy about stores making their employees work on Thanksgiving just for the pursuit of the almighty dollar, so I won't be shopping until Friday.  The extra 5% just isn't worth it to me. *stepping down off my soapbox now*

Cricut cartridges - $24.99 (reg price $49.99)
Cricut cartridges - $19.99 (reg price $39.99)
Teal Cricut Expression 2 Limited Edition with French Manor cartridge in box - $179.99
Craft Storage, entire stock 50% off (62% off with coupon!)
Plastic rolling organizers - 60% off (70% off with coupon)
Celebrate It Holiday Ribbon Bow-Tique 60 % off (70% off on Friday as a doorbuster with no coupon)
Sizzix, Spellbinders and Cuttlebug Machines and accessories (excludes Tim Holtz) - 40 % off (55% off with coupon)
Recollection scrapbook albums 3 for $10 ( reg $9.99 each, $2.50 each after coupon)
Entire stock scrapbook albums - 50% off (62% off with coupon)
Scrapbook paper pads - 50% off ( 62% with coupon)
Photo boxes 6 for $10 ( $1.25 each with coupon)
Fiskars 3-piece scrapbook set (trimmer, scissors and knife) $24.99 ($18.74 after coupon)

The following are buy one get one free and Michaels will not normally let you use a coupon for these items:
Entire stock scrapbooking stickers and embellishments
Gift Albums
Rubber, clear and cling stamps

On Saturday, there will be a couple of great doorbusters, but remember, you can't use coupons with them so prices are as follows:
Recollections stickers and embellishments - 60 % off
Iris 12 x 12 scrapbook case - $2.99 each

Also, the first 100 people in the store each day will receive a FREE Godiva chocolate bar...YUM!

Please keep in mind that prices may vary regionally so it's possible you might find some slightly different prices in your area.  Also, if you're thinking my math doesn't look quite right (50% off + 25% off coupon = 62% off?) please see my explanation at the end of THIS POST.

Happy Shopping!

Cheap Distress Stickles at Blitsy This Week!

Happy Friday!  I've been super busy making lots of fun projects for some friends who just opened up a comic book store and coffee house in our local mall.  Their actual grand opening is tomorrow, so things should settle down a little after that!  I've made a Grand Opening banner, a card and am making some signage for their shelves.  Let's just say my new Silhouette Cameo has been getting quite the workout!   I think I've just about worn out my first cutting mat already! Once everything is in position in their store, I'll take some pictures and post them, so you can see what I've been up to!

For all you bargain hunters out there, Blitsy showed up with some pretty good sales today!!  They have all of their Tim Holtz Distress Stickles on sale this week for only $1.69 each!  These colors all match the Tim Holtz  Distress Inks, so you're sure to be color coordinated.   Blitsy also has some GORGEOUS Die-Versions Dies, Trinkets & Treasures, Ranger embossing powders, and tons of other goodies!! The sale for these items all ends next Friday, 11/23/12.  They are also promising a GREAT Black Friday sale next week, so I'll keep you posted!!  If you would like to learn more about Blitsy or sign up for a free membership, please click HERE.

Speaking of Black Friday, (one of my favorite "holidays" of the year!) be sure to check back here often next week as I'll be posting all the hottest Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals as I find them.  Save your pennies and get ready for some AWESOME craft sales!!!!

Family Blog Hop

Family is a special word that means more then those that are actually related to us. It is a word that means those that are close to us. Those that are there for us when we cry or laugh and just want to talk. Families are special and this is a special time to be thankful for our family be it big or small, near or far. Please join our crafters as they celebrate families through their creativeness and love.

Our hostess is Jearise from http://lorbysworld.blogspot.com and she will be having a special give away on her blog so make sure you start with her blog to see the prize and how to enter the drawing.

Here is my idea of FAMILY...

This is a layout I made of our Thanksgiving, 2008.  One of our neighbors had just been diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer, and was scheduled for a mastectomy the day before Thanksgiving.  We knew her and her family were going to have to blow off Turkey Day that year, and me and some other neighbors wanted to do something about it.

So the day before her surgery (which was actually two days before Thanksgiving) we had a huge feast.  I cooked and another neighbor hosted.  Our kids, neighbors,  and a few close friends were there for a celebration of life, love, and thanks.  And PS...my neighbor came through it all like a champ.  She's one of the strongest people I know.

Recipe: most of the items on this layout are card stock and scraps from my stash.  The photos were matted with a really pretty paper bag from a scrapbooking store...yes, I know it's probably not acid free, but I'll take my chances...and I also have multiple copies of the photos just in case!

Thank you for stopping by today and now please continue on to Lucy's fabulous creation!

Money-Saving Monday #12

Happy Monday!  I hope your weekend was fabulous, and that you all remembered to hug a veteran yesterday! Welcome to another week of Money-Saving Monday.  This week, I found the most awesome idea for ribbon storage on the cheap from Spunky Junky.

How cool is that?  I've seen versions of these little baskets at the dollar store and just about everywhere else.  With a basket and a couple of lengths of a thin dowel, you have yourself automatic ribbon storage!  I may just have to go grab a couple of these baskets if I don't stop buying ribbon pretty soon...I'm running out of space!  *Blush*

If you have any money-saving tips or tricks you would like to share, please email me using my contact page.  Your tip and blog may be featured on a future edition of Money-Saving Monday!

Smoking Hot Deals This Weekend For Veteran's Day

As we start getting ramped up for Black Friday and the Christmas shopping season here in the US, stores are starting to bait us with some great deals to get us in the shopping mood.  Here's a few awesome deals happening at Joann's and Michael's Craft Stores this weekend.  This old coupon queen's trick?  Combine a coupon with a sale when you can...it can add up to massive savings!

I started to go into some of the math involved in figuring up your savings, but I thought that might be a quick way to shut some of you down real fast!  So instead, I'll do the math for you, and if you're curious how I arrived at some of the numbers I did, I'll have a mathematical explanation at the bottom of this post.

Joann's has pretty much all of their scrapbooking supplies on sale this weekend for "up to 40% off."   This includes, "Embellishments, stickers, stamps, paper & more."  It also includes paper crafting tools, stamps, and stamp pads.

So if the items you choose this weekend are 40% and you use the additional 25% off your total purchase coupon (valid through Monday November 12, 2012)  you'll be saving a total of 55% percent off your item or items!  Not a bad time to stock up on some goodies!!

When I looked online, it also showed DCWV stacks  sale priced at $9.99.  If you don't find that same deal at your local Joanns, you can ask them to price match their online sale, and they're usually great about doing so.  Once you add your 25% off coupon, you'll be scoring stacks for only $7.49 each.  That's my stock up price!

Joann's also has a coupon for 60% off any one regular priced item this weekend (if you can find something that's not on sale!!)

Michaels also has a 25% off your total purchase coupon this weekend.  I was having trouble posting their coupons, but you can find them HERE.  The sales at Michaels change on Sunday, so I'll list the noteworthy items for Saturday first.

Saturday November 10, 2012:

Open stock scrapbooking paper 6 sheets for $1.  (regularly $.59 each.  With coupon, 6 sheets for $.75 or $.13 cents each!)

Studio G cardmaking supplies 15 for $10 (or $.75 EACH.  With coupon they will be 15 for $7.50 or $.50 each.)

Tombow paper crafting adhesives 30% off.  (with coupon added, they will be 47% off.)

Recollections tools, Jolee's embellishments and stickers, and scrapbook paper pads, all 40 % off (with coupon it would be 55% off)

Recollections craft room storage and plastic scrapbook storage 40% off (with coupon this would be 55% off...BUT if you can wait, there will be a better deal on Black Friday according to the sneak peek of their ad.)

Photo Boxes 5 for $10 (or $2 each.  After coupon they will be 5 for $7.50 or $1.50 each.  These will be cheaper on Black Friday too.)

Sunday November 11, and Monday November 12, 2012

40% off of the following (55% off with coupon):

Scrapbook paper pads (cheaper on Black Friday)
Recollections craft room storage (cheaper on Black Friday)
Martha Stewart Crafts Christmas papercrafting & Celebrations
Christmas Paper pads, stamps, stickers and embellishments
Photo and scrapbook albums (cheaper on Black Friday)
Recollections value pack cards and envelopes, and value paper packs
Bazzill cardstock
Rubber, clear and cling stamps
Scrapbooking punches and trimmers
Adhesive runners and refills (including ATG gun and tape)

Recollections stickers and embellishments 50% off ( that would be 62% off with coupon)

12 x 12 Plastic scrapbooking case $4.99 ($3.74 with coupon.  These will be cheaper the Saturday after Black Friday.)

Okay...sign off here if you don't want to take the math class! Ha ha!!!

Below, we're going to be talking about the kind of coupons that give you 25% off your total purchase including sale prices.  We're also going to be talking about sales that are 40% - 50% off the normal prices of items.  Now, the common misconception is that if you get a "widget" sale priced at 50% off and then also use a 25% off coupon, that your widget will be a total of 75% off (50 + 25 =75) However, that's not the way the stores figure it up, and if you go in expecting that kind of deal, you're going to be leaving feeling a little bummed.

When you take your $10 widget (that's on sale for 50% off) up to the counter, it will ring up at $5.  Then you hand the clerk your 25% off coupon, and she will then take 25% off of what you OWE...that means 25% of $5...not the original $10 price.  This means the clerk will take an additional $1.25 off bringing your total to $3.75.   That's a total savings of a little more than 62%.  It's not as good as the 75% you may have thought you would get, but 62% off an item is certainly nothing to sneeze at!

So if the sales price is 30%  off with the 25% coupon, your total savings is 47% off.

40% off plus coupon, equal 55% off.

50% off plus coupon, equals 62% off

I know that's about as clear as mud, but I hope it helps!  Thanks for sticking with me and I hope you all have a FABULOUS weekend shopping!!!

What's On Your Workdesk Wednesday #179

Happy Wednesday!  Or if you're in the US, happy "YAY we don't have to watch any more political ads or get accosted on Facebook, Tuesday!!"   Not to get political, but I'm SO HAPPY we won't have to watch candidates tearing each other down every time we turn on the television to watch a comedy show!!  Okay, enough of that!

Welcome to What's On Your Workdesk Wednesday, our weekly passport to seeing what's on crafter's desks all over the world.  This week finds my desk a little messy, but productive.  I have some friends that just opened a comic book store at the local mall this week, so I'm making them a card and a grand opening banner. I made a Superman card and matching envelope, and will make a banner shaped like little Superman capes.  I need to buy A LOT of red cardstock for that first!  I'm using the Superman Cricut cartridge for both.

For those of you who like to search for the WOYWW button/badge, it's there and easy this week.  Do you see it?!?

Money-Saving Monday #11

I know this may seem like a no brainer for some, but one of the best ways EVER to save money on craft supplies, is to shop for seasonal or holiday goodies AFTER the holiday.  Usually within a few days, the goodies are marked down to tremendously low prices.

I was reminded of this today when I went in to Michael's to pick up a Smash*book, (with a 50% off coupon, of course!) and was stared in the face by two end-caps overflowing with Halloween paper packs, embellishments, stickers, punches...just about anything a paper crafter could dream of!

I just had to pick up a few paper packs, and while I realize that it will probably be next year before I use the majority of the paper, I also realize I don't mind waiting because I got it all for 80% off...the two paper packs (by K & Co and Martha Stewart) and 5 mat stacks and dies cut stacks, only cost me $10.73!  And add to that, the fact that I used a gift card I got for my birthday, technically my total out of pocket was zilch zero FREE!  SCORE!!

I can't wait for the after Christmas sales!

If you have any money-saving tips or tricks you would like to share, please email me using my contact page.  Your tip and blog may be featured on a future edition of Money-Saving Monday!

My Craft Room Is Being Featured!

YAY!!!!  And happy Friday!  I just found out that my craft room is being featured today over at Craftaholics Anonymous! Linda features a tour of a different craft room each Friday.  As most of you old-timers know, I got a beautifully made, custom-built craft room from my neighbors in exchange for dog and house sitting for them when they go on vacation. My whole out of pocket expense for the room?  $22.  Yep!  HERE'S the original post.

If you're stopping by from Craftaholics Anonymous, WELCOME!  This is a blog dedicated, not only to paper crafting, but to helping you save money on your crafts.  There's a Money-Saving Monday feature each week, as well as a link-up post to What's On Your Workdesk Wednesday, where crafters from all over the world show pictures of their desks and what they're currently working on.  Some days, my desk is atrocious, and those are hard pictures to take and post for the world to see!  This is also the place to come for all the info on great sales.  We're gearing up for all the best Black Friday sales this month, so be sure to stop back by often to learn about all the latest and greatest bargains!

To be sure not to miss any of the good stuff, I invite you to become a follower or subscriber.  The way to both is on the side bar to your right.  Right there! --------------------------->

I hope you all have a FABULOUS weekend!

Happy Scrapping! ~Amy E
