Pyrimage Card...The Sequal

Happy Friday peeps!!!!!  Thanks for stopping by to say hi!  I have my final monthly entry for the Crafter's Companion September Challenge...stripes and /or dots.  I had so much fun with the pyrimage card I made the other day, that I decided to try another one!  This is another pattern off the Popcorn the Bear Floral CD-ROM.   I'm having so much fun with that CD, that I need to go buy more color ink for my printer!

This card has a very Spring/Easter feel to it, which is kind of odd since it's Autumn, but hey...it's what I have to work with for now!  I cut the layers, and used very thin pop dots to stack the picture.  I tried regular foam squares last time, and the layers were so far apart, you could barely tell what the picture was supposed to be. I used one of the sentiments from the Popcorn the Bear, Someone Special stamp set, and scraps and card stock from my stash.

Here's an even closer view so you can check out the layers a little better.

Thanks for stopping by.  Have a GREAT weekend!

My First Pyrimage Card

Happy Wednesday!  I'm back with another entry for this month's Crafter's Companion Challenge (stripes and/or dots.) Once again, I wanted to try something that I had never done before, so this time I tried a Pyrimage card.  I REALLY like the way it came out!

Here's a better look at the pyrimage portion of the card.   Pyrimage is taking several prints of the same picture and cutting them down smaller and smaller, then stacking them on top of each other.  It sounds complicated, but it really wasn't, since I used the Crafter's Companion Popcorn the Bear Floral CD-ROM.  The cd has the pictures already sized, and all you need to do is print and cut them out.  Well, I guess that's not all you have to do...you still have to line those suckers up just right!

I sprayed some flowers with home made glitter mists, and then stacked them with a little bling in the center.  I used one of the sentiments from the Popcorn the Bear Someone Special stamp set.  I had a blast making this!  I hope you like it!

I will also be entering this card in the Simon Says Stamp Challenge - Anything Goes.

Happy Wednesday WOYWWers!  Welcome to another edition of What's On Your Workdesk Wednesday.  This is our weekly journey to peek at desks around the world!  I love this community!  Who knew I would make friends in the UK, Australia and other awesome parts of the world...this ROCKS!!

Today, the mess on my desk as actually just stuff I laid out getting ready for a crop with my friends.  I feel like I'm moving!!  I have a huge stack of card stock, my tools, markers and watercolor pencils, and tons of other goodies.  I had to use two totes to fit it all in.  I'll post whatever I wind up making sometime in the next few days!  That is...if I actually make something, and not just sit and visit the whole time!  Ha ha!

The button/badge is hidden if you want to try to find it...good luck!!

And this is just the CRAFT STUFF I've gotten for free!  It doesn't include Christmas presents for family and other assorted goodies, or the nice sum I've already saved up towards my next purchase!

So. have I got your attention?  Ha ha!  A few years ago, I joined Swagbucks.  Basically, Swagbucks is a program where you can earn (you guessed it) Swag "bucks."  You're randomly rewarded "bucks" for doing web searches using their Google Search Engine.  Although I don't normally do tons of searches, every time I go to ANY site, including Hotmail to check my email, or Facebook, or my own blog even, I type it into my Swagbucks tool bar.  You don't have to install their tool bar to join or search, but it makes it a lot more convenient for me.  You can also earn Swagbucks by taking daily polls, watching videos, and all sorts of other activities.

Now, here's where the free stuff comes in.  You can save up your "bucks" and redeem them for all sorts of various prizes.  I ALWAYS redeem mine for Amazon gift cards.  It takes 450 "bucks" to earn a $5 Amazon gift card.  (I can usually earn enough points without really trying, to exchange for 3 - 5 gift cards each month.)  Even though we're only talking $5 at a time, you would really be surprised at how quickly it adds up.  There are other increments of Amazon cards you can save up for, but having done the math, the $5-for-450-bucks is the best deal in the long run.

Once I've saved up enough Amazon cards to purchase what I want, I make sure to get items that qualify for free shipping.  Your Amazon purchase has to add up to at least $25 to get the free shipping, but I'm more than happy to do that.  After all, free is free!!

If you would like to check out Swagbucks, click HERE!  If you have any questions or would like more info, please don't hesitate to ask...this is a program that has given me so many free goodies, so I'm happy to help! Oh, and FYI...quite a few blog readers also participate in this program, and I know from one very sweet reader (hi Kristan!) that it works in Canada too.  My understanding is that it works world wide, although some different prizes may be offered in other parts of the world.

Crafter's Companion September Challenge

Happy Sunday!  Sorry for all the dead air here the last few days.  I was in a little funk after my son went back home to Texas from his awesome visit last weekend, but I finally got back into my craft room to play yesterday!  I knew I wanted to do a card for this month's Crafter's Companion Challenge (stripes and/or dots) and I knew I wanted to try something a little different, so above, you'll see the result of both!

When I've colored stamps in the past, using my watercolor pencils, I've noticed that I will usually go back over the original black lines of the stamp once I'm finished coloring.  The color in the pencils seem to dull the black of the ink. So this time, I tried something new.  I heat embossed my stamp in black embossing powder before I started coloring.  I was concerned about getting the pencils down in some of the tiny groves (since heat embossing raises the lines of your picture) but once I put water pen to paper, the color washed into all those grooves perfectly!  The result (though hard to see in the photo) is clean dark black lines with a beautiful shine to them!

I used Martha Stewart black embossing power and the totally cute Popcorn the Bear Bunches of Love stamp set for the picture, and Popcorn the Bear Someone Special set for the sentiment.

Tim Is Back!

Woohoo!!  Blitsy has brought back the Tim Holtz Distress Ink Pads by Ranger again this week!  They're priced at only $3.25 each...woot woot!   Also, they're doing something a little special with some of the the ink pads that I haven't seen before.  They have broken apart the Summer and Winter collections so that you can buy each of those pads separately if you would like to.  They're a little more expensive, $3.75 each, but it's a great alternative if you only want one or two of the colors in the collection.  Or, you can buy the full sets for only $10.99 each.

Blitsy also has the Distress Ink Reinkers for only $2.99 for the regular colors, or $3.25 for the seasonal colors (they have all 12 seasonal colors available!)   The sale on all the Distress Ink products ends on 9/24/12.

There's also TONS of other goodies at great prices for the next few days; Waterbrushes, Ranger Accents, Tim Holtz Grungeboard, American Crafts Ribbon, (the sale on all of these ends 9/21/12) and they just put up TONS of Halloween goodies this morning, including Tim Holtz and Spellbinders Halloween dies!  (sale on those items good through 9/26/12.)

WOYWW #172

Happy Wednesday bloggie people!  Welcome to edition #172 of What's On Your Workdesk Wednesday.  Today will be short and sweet since you'll find my desk pretty much spotless.  My son was here visiting over the weekend, and he had never seen my craft room before (even though the actual room was his bedroom for a while when he was younger!) so I wanted it pristine when he saw it for the first time.  Now the problem is that I have a blank slate and hate to mess it up!  I need to throw some paper on the desk and start creating!!

For those who asked about the ink pad shelf I was building last week, its shown up above in the corner,  If you want to see better pics and links on how to build one, here's a link to the post I wrote about it.

For those of you who like to look, the badge is hidden in plain sight in one of the pics above...happy hunting!

Now, totally unrelated to WOYWW, as mentioned above, my AWESOME son came for a visit last weekend from Texas.  It was a short but incredibly fun few days.  Below are a few pics of my crazy kids messing with me while I was trying to get one good, serious picture of all of them.  From left to right is my son, my daughter, and my daughter's boyfriend.

FINALLY...a decent pic of all three of them at the same time!

Happy Wednesday!

Money-Saving Monday...on Tuesday #6

Well, I'm running just a tad late (or maybe a whole day late!) for this installment of Money-Saving Monday, but I'm hoping you'll think it's worth the wait!  Today's tip is about making your Cricut cutting mats go farther.  How?  Well by cutting them in half of course!

You can get a package of 2 Cricut cutting mats that are 12 x 24 inches for about $10 - $12 if you catch a good sale or use a coupon at Joanns.  Once you take them out of the package, but before you take the plastic cover off the sticky part, cut the mat in half, right down the 12 inch mark, being careful to stay right on the line and making your cut as straight as possible.  Once cut, you'll use the markings on the mat like usual, and your paper will be positioned right at that cut edge, so you want it straight.  When you're ready to use your cut mats, just insert the green edge first (see illustration above) and your cuts will be gauged perfectly.

For around $10 - $12, you'll wind up with 4 cutting mats.  That's about $2.50 - $3 per mat!  Yay for saving money!

If you have any money-saving tips or tricks you would like to share, please email me using my contact page. Your tip and blog my be featured on a future edition of Money-Saving Monday!

The Saturday Spotlight...Sort Of!

Happy Saturday!  I'm totally slacking off on today's Saturday Spotlight.  Why you may ask?  Because my incredible son is in town this weekend from Texas!!!  He and his sister decided they wanted to have a carefree brother/sister weekend before they had to get back to the realities of all that life has in store for them.

These are my two gorgeous babies smiling pretty for the camera while we were out at breakfast yesterday morning.

So, no bloggers to tell you about this week.  For this Saturday, MY spotlight is dimmed by comparison to the bright shining light these two have brought into my life for the last 26 and 30 years.  My heart is happy.  My heart is full.

The Little Ink Shelf That Could

Alrighty, let me preface this post by saying that I am no carpenter, I am no architect, and I'm sure not a builder of any kind!  With that being said, may I present to you, my newly constructed ink pad shelf/holder/thingy!

I made it out of foam core board from inspiration I found over at Robin's Creative Cottage and instructions from Syzygy of Me.  I made my own modifications for the drawers and the smaller TH Distress Ink pads...and by made my own modifications, I mean completely changed all the measurements around, so that by the time I was done, nothing quite fit together right!!  I considered scrapping it and starting fresh, but it took me so long to make, I didn't have the heart to. I may go back in the future and make a new one, but this one is functional, so it will do for now.

There's room for 72 ink pads.  I made color-coded labels for all of my Distress ink Pads so that I could see what's what. The drawers are big enough to hold all sorts of goodies.  I'm using them for acrylic blocks, Ink blender pads, embossing powder, pretty much anything that involves stamping.  It allowed me to clean a ton of stuff off my desk, so I'm growing more fond of it by the minute!!

On a COMPLETELY unrelated note, as I was loading up the ink pad shelf, hubby and Megan the kitty were having fun playing with a box they found in the craft room.  Megan is 16 years old (the younger of our two cats) and was playing just like she was a kitten.  Although it looks like hubby was flipping her off, he was actually pulling his hand away as fast as he could...but he wasn't fast enough.  Let's just say, thank goodness he didn't need stitches!

WOYWW #171

Happy Wednesday!  (or Tuesday to us U.S. peoples!)  Welcome to edition #171 of What's On Your Workdesk Wednesday.  I ACTUALLY cleaned my desk off this week so that I could make a new mess on it.  I've been reading about people making ink pad holders out of foam core board and really wanted to try it myself.  On my desk you can see that I have a pretty good start to one.  I got that far and then ran out of board.  Hubby's going to pick up a few more sheets on his way home from work tonight so that I can finish.  It still needs a back to steady it, and I decided to get brave and make some drawers for it, so those still need to be cut out and put together.  I promise to post pics when it's completed!  In the mean time, if you would like to read the antics about my trying to build this silly shelf, and why strands of hot glue are a BAD thing, you might want to check out my Money-Saving Monday post.  Let's just say it was an interesting experience!!

The badge button is hidden super easy this week...I'm going on a little sleep deprivation, so I thought I would go easy on us all!!  Have a GREAT rest of the week!
