Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween!!  I hope you have an awesome time with the ghosts and ghouls and dinosaurs tonight!!  I mentioned in a previous post that I got to meet my first grandchild earlier this month, and one of the really fun things I got to do, was to buy him his first Halloween costume EVER!  I found the perfect one before I ever left home, and once I was at his house, little Lincoln and I snuck away into his nursery and dressed him up and then put on a fashion show for his mommy and daddy!  Since they love to call him their little Lincasaurus, the dinosaur costume was the perfect find!

So, of course, I had to make a scrapbook layout for it!!

Please consider joining us this week over at the Scrapbook Challenge on MFP Speedy TV  Remember this challenge is strictly scrapbook layouts, no cards please.  You have to use stamps on your pages. They don't have to be Marks Finest Papers, a Heinrich Co stamps but if you do use them you will be entered twice for a chance to win.  This week, our challenge is one of my favorites...ANYTHING GOES!!

When my sweet friend Becky at Buzzy Bee Designs saw the costume I found for Lincoln, she designed THE CUTEST scrapbook layout with Silhouette cut files, for some of the photos she knew I would take.  It's all about dinosaurs and his first Halloween and it was absolutely adorable.

I cut it out with my Cameo this week and added a few extras.  I used mostly solid colored cardstock scraps for the cuts and then used pages from the Quick Quotes Summertime Blues collection to mount everything on.  I love the color combo!  I also found an adorable QQ quote for the layout!  I thought it would be perfect for scary dinosaurs!

I decided to add a little extra pattern and dimension to my background pages with a Mark's Finest Papers stamp set.  I love these dinosaurs and have used them before on this card.  I used Mark's Finest Paper's Dino News stamp set and Quick Quotes chalking inks in Blue Moon and Green Tea to add a random dinosaur pattern to the pages.  The little dinosaurs were so cute and really added that  extra something!  I love the look of tone on tone stamping.

I didn't have time to get the photos developed for the layout at the time of this post, but here's a little sample of some of the pics I plan to use.

I think this might just be too much cuteness for one layout!  Ha ha!

I hope you'll join us this week for our Anything Goes Challenge.  You have until next Wednesday at 8 pm EST to link up.  See you there!

Happy Birthday Husband!

Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday dear husband.....happy birthday to you!  Monday was my dear sweet man's 50th birthday, and on top of a few other surprises, I had just HAD to make him a special card.  My husband is one of those rare men who love teddy bears...YAY!  So I decided to build him a pyramage card.

Don't forget to join me over at MFP Speedy TV this week for my Purple Passion Column!

Even though husband loves teddy bears, I wanted to find some masculine colors for his card.  The different shades of creams and browns worked perfectly with the right tone of dark purple.  It's all about matching the tones!  I found some scraps in my stash from Quick Quotes that worked perfectly

A pyramage card is all about cutting the same picture out over and over (smaller each time) and stacking the layers to give a 3D effect.  I used a CD from Crafter's Companion I got some time ago, to print out the photo, and then I just started cutting!  I've done a few other pyramage cards in the past that you can see HERE and HERE if you're interested!

Inside the card, I stamped a sentiment from the Mark's Finest Paper's stamp set Huge Blooms (LOVING that set!)  The awesome flower and ladybug is from MFP's Oopsy Daisy stamp set.  I was going to color in the Daisy, but liked the black image stamped on the yellow Quick Quotes cardstock so much that I decided to leave it as is.  Love it!

My Family family.  As crazy as they are, I just love them to pieces!  I made a scrapbook layout that will be sister pages to a double layout I made last month about a day trip we took to Seattle a few years back.  I just love scrapbooking my family.  It's like my love letter to them.

The challenge this week is to use at least three different patterned papers on your layout.  You can even use your stamps to make patterned paper if you would like to!

I used the rest of a page kit I bought at a garage sale this summer.  There were enough scraps left to get two good pages.  Maybe I can still squeeze a card or two out of it as well!  The nice part about the kit is that there were some coordinating patterns left to play with.  I threw in a few of my own too.

I tried to do a few different things with this layout.  I weaved some of the paper strips and the tape measure (see above) to give a little extra texture and visual interest.  I also fussy-cut some of the circles from some of the patterned papers, and inked the edges with Quick Quotes Chalking Inks to give some definition.

I decided to use one of my new favorite stamp sets, Mark's Finest Paper's Huge Blooms set.  I used this set on a card a few weeks ago and absolutely love it.  I like really big stamps!  This time, I stamped it on some textured cardstock to give a little extra dimension.  I used some watercolor pencils to do some shading, although the paper didn't take too kindly to it!  All in all though, I like the result!

I hope you'll join us this week for the scrapbook challenge!  You have until next Wednesday at 5 pm to link up with us!

Halloween Goodies!

Only one more week until chocolate, um, goodies, Halloween!!!  Now that I've officially joined the ranks of the "vintage" (I had a dreaded milestone birthday two days ago) and my kids are all grown, what I want to know is....whose trick or treat bags do I get to raid?  It's SUCH a bummer!!  Oh well!

Join me over at MFP Speedy TV this week for my Purple Passion column!  I look into ways and ideas to help you use purple (my all-time favorite color) in your projects.

A few weeks ago, I was at my sweet friend Becky's house.  We did a card-making class of sorts.  Each person there made up card kits to share with the other scrappers.  We all walked out with lots of cards made from the kits.  It was fun and such a great idea!

One of the cute things we made were these adorable treat boxes.  Becky had the box already cut out, along with the pumpkins, the vinyl for the pumpkin's faces, and the ribbons for the boxes.  I took home all the rest of the leftover kits since we're one of the few people in this area to get trick-or-treaters each year.

I decided to replace some of the green ribbon in the kit with purple ribbon, so that I could get some of my fave color in there!  I also used the adorable Mark's Finest Paper stamp set, I'm Going Batty, to stamp some of the labels on the front side of the boxes.  The little images fit perfectly on the pre-cut labels. Yay!  I love it when a plan comes together!

Tone-On-Tone Background Stamping

I think about it and I shudder...barely TWO MONTHS left before Christmas?  What?  It feels like it just happened last month!  They say when you get older, time goes faster, but this is ridiculous!  Haha!  So in honor of getting all revved up for Christmas, our weekly Scrapbook Challenge on MFP Speedy TV is asking for holiday themed layouts this week!

Remember this challenge is strictly scrapbook layouts, no cards please.  You have to use stamps on your pages. They don't have to be Marks Finest Papers, a Heinrich Co stamps but if you do use them you will be entered twice for a chance to win.  We're giving away different stamps each week this month, so make sure to stop by the challenge page to see what you have a chance to win!

This week, I decided to take things in a little different direction with my layout.  I found an adorable set of cut files in the Silhouette Store made by PPBN, and thought they would be perfect for our random Christmas morning photos from 2008.  That was the year that both my son and daughter moved back home for a short time, so Christmas morning was absolutely perfect...both my kids at home.  We had a wacky, wonderful morning!

I used some scraps of patterned paper for some interest, but mainly stuck with solid cardstock to make my embellishments.  I used a metallic silver paint pen to make the "hangers" for the Christmas ornaments.  The paint is so shiny, they look really authentic!

I love the look on my husband's face when he figured out what his gift was!

Even after adding all the cute paper piecings, I felt the page still needed a little more, so I did some tone-on-tone background stamping.  I used two of the images from Mark's Finest Paper's Poinsettia Blooms stamp set and some Maraschino Cherry Chalking Ink from Quick Quotes to stamp a really awesome background and basically make patterned paper out of solid cardstock!  I love this trick!

I hope you'll consider linking up with this week to share your Christmas memories and have a chance at an awesome MFP stamp set.  You have until next Wednesday at 5 pm to join us.  See you then!

A Glittery Merry Christmas!

Happy hump day to you!  The week is half over and the weekend is coming!  Hubby and I are having a gigantic birthday party this weekend!  Our birthdays are a week apart and we're celebrating the big scary 50 this year...yuck!  We figure we'll be surrounded by family and friends and alcohol, and forget all about it!  Haha!

So here's my weekly contribution to the advancement of purple in the Purple Passion column over at MFP Speedy TV.

This past Saturday, a group of us got together for a belated National Card Making Day party.  Each one of us made up a card kit to hand out and teach the others in the group how to make.  It was a lot of fun and we all walked away with lots of cards in lots of new styles!  I really had a blast and learned a lot doing it!

The card shown here was my contribution to the day.  I used a pattern I found in the Silhouette store, and changed it up a little.  I used the glitter technique I've been playing around with lately to make the ornaments really shine and pop right off the card.

Tucked away on the inside of the card is my greeting.  I used a sentiment and the cute little holly leaves from the Mark's Finest Paper's stamp set Holly Jolly Greetings, that came out last year.  This set has some of the cutest little images in it, including a snowman and Santa!

Have a great week!

McDonald's Art?

Happy Thursday to you!  It's time for another installment of the Mark's Finest Paper Scrapbook Challenge.  This week, we're doing Anything Goes!  That's always a fun topic because you never know what you'll see from our design team and all the awesome entrants!

When we went to NYC in 2007, we stopped to have some food at a McDonald's in Time's Square.  The inside of it was GORGEOUS!  It certainly didn't feel like I was in a Mickey D's.  There were murals on the walls and a miniature replica of the city right in the middle of the restaurant.  I wish all McDonald's looked like that!

I'm using the new Works of Art stamp set by Mark's Finest Paper again today for my layout.  Since there were so many artistic, cool things to look at in the restaurant, I thought the sentiments on the set would go perfect with my page.  The sentiment above is the same one I stamped in purple on the card I featured in yesterday's post.  The sentiment in the photo below fit beautifully with the whole page too.  I just love it when a stamp set will work just as well on a scrapbook layout as it will on cards!

I used some paper from my stash that reminded my of New York, and outlined everything in black pen to make it pop off the page!

I hope you have an awesome weekend!  I'll be going to a card making gathering with scrappy friends...YAY!!  See you soon!

Works of Art

Happy Wednesday!  It's time for my weekly column on MFP Speedy TV... so here we go!

I've found a really awesome stamp set that I've had fun working with this week!  Mark's Finest Paper has done it again with their Oriental themed line of stamps.  One of this month's new releases is called Works of Art.  It has a GORGEOUS cherry blossom branch on it that I loved coloring.  I have a tree just like it in my front yard that's gigantic! And there's an incredible background stamp included in the set that I had fun with too.

I decided to do just a hint of purple today with the ink I used for the sentiment.  I stamped it onto light blue cardstock and then masked it before I stamped the background image.  I popped up the flowering cherry branches, and voila!

Have an awesome day!  See ya tomorrow!

Because Superman Was Adopted Too...

Last year, I told you a story about my son and daughter-in-law working to raise money to adopt.  Then a few months later, I was able to share the joyful news about new baby Lincoln.  Well this week, my life came full circle.  I got to fly down to Texas to meet my grandson for the very first time, and let me tell you, my heart is full.

I woke up to a giraffe jungle!

Smiley Daddy and smiley baby!

Imagine waking up to this smile every day!

Daddy introducing his son to Mr. Roger's Neighborhood for the first time.  I can't tell who's more mesmerized!

Mommy and Daddy like to give me lots of kisses!

LOTS of kisses!
This smile has made so many people happy.
Thanks for indulging me.  I just had to share the happiness spilling out of me :)
