I'm Thankful For...

HAPPY THANKSGIVING to those of you who celebrate today!  I can't wait to get my turkey on!!  (not in a weird creepy Hannibal Lecter sense...I just like to eat turkey!)

Since today is Thanksgiving, it's the perfect day to start our new Thankful Scrapbook Challenge over at Mark's Finest Papers.  This week, the challenge is to make a scrapbook page about either Thanksgiving, or something you're thankful for.

Since it was a little too early for current Thanksgiving photos and I didn't have any that were already printed from previous years, I decided to do a double layout of what I'm thankful for.  The first page (from top to bottom) is my totally adorable husband, the cuterst grandson ever, and my gorgeous daughter and her fiance. The second page has a pic of my awesome son and daughter-in-law (parents to the cutest grandson ever!) There's nothing in the world I'm more thankful for than the people on these pages.

I I feel like I kind of cheated on my layout a little this week.  I used a page kit that came with part of a larger kit from SEI that I got at CKC recently.  Although I like the elements in the kit,  the one thing I didn't realize when I was buying it, is that everything comes completely pre-cut and ready to assemble.  It literally took 30 seconds to put the page together. I think it's AWESOME for new scrapbookers, but I like a little more challenge in my pages.  So I went with it, but then added some sentiments and chipboard from Quick Quotes.  I inked up the pieces of chipboard (the leaves, "love," and "sweet" on the first page and "joy" on the second) with different colors of chalking inks and added some sparkle with a Gelly Roll pen in stardust that my sweet friend Becky gave me.

Up in the top corner of the photo on the second page, I used the Thankful sentiment from Mark's Finest Paper's I Am Thankful stamp set.  I just LOVE this set.  It's got the cutest little scarecrow holding a pumpkin, and a turkey that you could do SO MUCH on your thanksgiving table with...think place cards, food cards for a buffet, etc.

Oh, I little tip before I go!  Starting right NOW, Mark's Finest Papers is having a Black Friday sale.  They're giving a 30 % discount off all their stamp sets.  It's their biggest sale of the year!  The discount is good through Monday December 2nd.  Happy shopping!

And in between your turkey and your Christmas shopping don't forget to link up with us for this week's challenge.  You have a really great chance at winning an awesome MFP stamp!  And after all, as busy as you're going to be this next month, don't you need to sit down and take some time to craft?

Happy Autumn! Thanksgiving really tomorrow?  How did that all happen so fast?  In my mind, it's still summer!  Today is the day for my weekly column, Purple Passion, on MFP Speedy TV.

For my card this week, I used purple in the background for my matting.  Sometimes, that's a great way to use a color that's normally out of your comfort zone...use it as a base or mat for your card.

I used a GORGEOUS stamp from Mark's Finest Papers called Autumn Friendships.  I think this is probably my favorite stamp from them.  The leaf is really pretty by itself, but then when you look closer there's a whole Fall scene inside it! Beautiful!  I used lots of Quick Quotes paper scraps and some Bic Mark-It's to color in my leaf.  Not my favorite coloring job ever, but it'll do!  I might go back and try it again with some Distress Inks soon!

I hope you'll stop by my blog this week and say hi!  You can find me at Scrap This Save That.  Have a WONDERFUL Thanksgiving!

More Washi Tape!

Wedding venue - check.  Photographer - check.  DJ - check.  Officiant - check.  Caterer - almost check.  I am in FULL ON wedding mode and have been for the past week.  I can't tell you how many hours I've spent on the phone with potential vendors!  Since my daughter and her fiance both work full-time, I told her I would be more than happy to spend the time on the phone screening vendors and passing them along to her and her intended for a closer look.  I'm telling you though...I don't know how full-time wedding planners do it!  There's A LOT of info to be had out there!

Okay, enough of that and on to the reason why we're here!

It's time for a new scrapbook challenge over at MFP Speedy TV.  Remember this challenge is strictly scrapbook layouts, no cards please.  You have to use stamps on your pages. They don't have to be Mark's Finest Papers, a Heinrich Co stamps but if you do use them you will be entered twice for a chance to win.  This week, our challenge is BLING!   Use any kind of bling on your layout.

You may think you're seeing double from my Scrapbook page last week, but indeed this is a little different.  Last week I made a single-page layout with Washi tape about my daughter.  This week I decided to turn it into a two page layout  I also revised the first page...ripped up and moved part of the title and replaced the journaling block entirely and put in a new one.

I should probably explain this layout and the odd expressions on my daughter's face!  Two days after she first met her now-fiance, her and I were at a concert at the zoo.  During the middle of the concert, her phone rang, but since it was so noisy, she let the call go to voice mail.  She didn't recognize the number and was thinking it might be the cute guy she had met two days earlier.  In between songs, while it was quiet enough to hear, she listened to her message, and sure enough, it was him, asking her out for the first time!

As she was getting off her phone, she turned to look at me and I immediately snapped some photos.  The first picture is the utter look of joy from hearing the message and being asked out by a guy she was hoping would call her.  The second photo was the quizzical look on her face when she realized I was snapping her picture.  She ask me why and my reply was that I wanted to capture the moment just in case this guy turned out to be some thing special.  (she hadn't shut up about him for the past two days!)  The third picture was of excitement at the prospect.

And now, they're ENGAGED!!!  They'll be getting married next summer on the third anniversary of the day they met!

So...enough of the proud mom stuff.  Time to get down tot he nuts and bolts.  I used Quick Quote papers and chalking inks for the entire layout.  The whole rainbow effect is actually lots of different kinds and colors of Washi tape placed close together on a wave of white cardstock, cut with my Silhouette Cameo.  I lined both sides of the Washi tape wave with like-colored bling...LOTS of bling!  My bling is actually different colors of Diamond Mesh that I picked up at the Creating Keepsakes Scrapbook Convention a few weeks ago.  They had lots of different colors available so I got a little of this and a little of that!

For my sentiment, I used the new Mark's Finest Paper's stamp set, Out on the Town.  I think the, "Let's go out" phrase fit perfectly with the story behind my layout!

We would love to have you join us this week.  You have until next Wednesday at 8 pm EST to link up  See you there!

And now...I'm gonna go make peanut butter cookies!  Mmmmm!

Batman and Robin!

Holy Purple Batman!  It's Wednesday already and time for another installment of Purple Passion om MFP Speedy TV!

First of all, happy birthday to my awesome and wonderful son!!!  I love him and I miss him and I hope he has the best day ever!

Soooo, in honor of my son and his love for Batman, I resurrected an old design of mine and made him a birthday card from it.  I used my trusty Silhouette Cameo to make a Seattle skyline (complete with the Space Needle!) and then put it on an argyle embossed background.  I used the print and cut function on the Cameo to make my superheros for the front of the card...crouched and at the ready!

On the inside of the card I used a sentiment from the Mark's Finest Paper's stamp set, Island Life.  I just love the font!! I framed the sentiment and then matted the inside of the card too.  Of course, everything is all attached to a PURPLE base!

Thanks for stopping by!

Mini New Year

Welcome to the last day of our hop!  I hope you've enjoyed yourself and that the artists have sparked some creativity and given you some great ideas!

Here's my last card for the hop and one of my favorites!  I just love the Chill in the Air stamp set because it's conducive to several of my favorite techniques.  I started with a white piece of cardstock and put just the slightest bit of Weathered Wood Distress ink in the left corner.  Then I used one of the sentiments from the stamp set and stamped over the light color with VersaMark ink and then used clear embossing powder to heat emboss.  Next, I used black Memento ink to stamp the tree.  I used an image of one of the branches in the set and just stamped the tip ends of it to make the dried grass on the ground.

Next, I let the Distress Ink do it's magic!  I used Frayed Burlap, more Weathered Wood, Stormy Sky and Faded jeans to give the illusion of the moon and a winter's night sky.  A little matting, and poof, you have a cool wintery card.  Love it!
