Christmas Card Catch-Up Week 5

If you're here for What's On Your Workdesk Wednesday, please scroll down to the next post!

Are you in the Christmas spirit yet?  After all, there's only 328 more shopping day until Christmas!  Haha!!  Okay, I officially have FIVE Christmas cards ready for Christmas 2013!  Woot!  As you may be able to tell, I'm super stoked! Here's my  latest creation

I'm kind of on a roll with the Silhouette cards lately.  The Silhouette store just has so many gorgeous Christmas cards available, it's hard to choose.  This one is called the Accordion Fold Christmas Tree card.  I cut it with some cardstock that has a different shade of green on each side of the paper, and turned the frame so that it would show the lighter green.

I covered the tree and the star in Stickles.  I LOVE me some Stickles!!  I used Lime Green And Yellow.  I may decide at some point in the future to stamp a sentiment somewhere on it, but for now, I just love it's simplicity.

How many Christmas cards have you made so far this year?

WOYWW #191

Happy What's On Your Workdesk Wednesday day!!!

Okay, so Operation: Clean Your Freakin' Desk didn't exactly go as planned a couple of weeks ago!  As you can see, my desk is still a borderline disaster!  I did have to clear a place to work on some large pieces of vinyl I was cutting last week, but the small clean spot on my big desk is kind of like putting a band-aide on an amputation!

In happier news, my craft room was featured on Crafty Storage over the weekend!  I was getting lots of traffic on my blog and couldn't figure out why!  Haha!  They got the pics and information from the blog post I wrote on Craftaholics Anonymous back in November, when my craft room was featured there!!

Don't forget to look for the hidden WOYWW button/badge, if that's your thing!  Have a GREAT day!

Money-Saving Monday #21

Happy Monday and WOW am I ever running late today!!  This should have posted hours ago, but sometimes life gets in the way, things get a little nutsy, and before you know it, you haven't posted yet!    Today's tip was shared with me by my buddy AJ,  She's pretty awesome when it comes to stamping!  Okay, so here we go...short, sweet and brilliant!

Do you have one of these?

...or a Cuttlebug or something similar with clear cutting plates?  Well if you do, take one of those clear plates...

...and a huge stamp that you might not have an acrylic block big enough for (like me!), and use the clear plate as your acrylic block!

What?!?!  YES, it works and the plates are big enough to more than cover almost any large stamps!

The stamps will stick to the plate just like any other acrylic block and you will have awesome results!

BOOM!  DONE!  You're welcome!

Okay, now on to my gift bag!  I chose paper and cardstock from the Robin's Nest and DCWV, and  an awesome cutting file from SVG Cuts, to make this bag.  (and have I mentioned in the last 5 minutes how much I HEART my Silhouette Cameo?!)  The bag is actually pretty huge!  It took 4 full pieces of 12 x 12 cardstock, and I love it because most homemade gift bags only use 1 - 2 sheets, and they come out really small.  This one will hold larger gifts!

Here's a view from the side...

And to give you an idea of how big this bag really is, it could hold a Crop-A-Dile II with room to spare!!

Free-For-All Friday

Thanks to all of you for your positive response to this new weekly segment!  Although I hope to keep it fresh each week, the nature of the beast is that you'll see a lot of the same information and links every Friday.  So, in order to give you something new to look at each time, I'm going to try to post in bold text what the new freebie files are each week next to each company's link.  Keep in mind that these posts will go up early on Fridays, (normally) so I may not have the current information for the companies that post their free files on Fridays.  Also, in a quick brainstorming session I had with my friend Becky, she suggested I choose a file each week to show you.  So the file I really fell in love with this week is the adorable bunny holding a string of hearts from Little Scraps Of Heaven.  How CUTE is this?!!

Also, thanks to my friend AJ for finding the link to Bird's Cards.  That was another suggested site that had lots of great free files, and boy, do they ever!  Be sure to check them out and add them to your, "great places to go for freebies" list!

FREE SVG FILES:

New file DAILY -

Paper Piecings By Nikki has just starting adding a new free file DAILY!  They're really adorable!  Also, she has reduced the cost off all cutting files in her store to 99 cents (or less) each!  What a deal!  Today's freebie is an adorable angel bear holding a heart!

Miss Kate Cuttables actually has a DAILY freebie too! Today's freebie is a present in a scalloped circle.

New file every MONDAY -

Little Scraps Of Heaven  You can access their freebies through their blog or their Facebook fan page.  This week's file is the most adorable bunny holding a string of hearts!!

KaDoodle Bug Designs publishes new free files on Mondays and corresponding digi files on Tuesdays.  This week they have two free files...a cute little birthday turtle and a title to go with it.  They're also offering free matching clip art now too!  Wow!  SUPER generous!

New file every TUESDAY -

For those of you that own a Silhouette machine, don't forget that the Silhouette store has a free cutting file each Tuesday.  You need to download the free program to your computer (even if you don't own a Silhouette machine yet) to access the store.  Please keep in mind that the files aren't SVGs...they will only cut on a Silhouette brand machine, (SD, Cameo, or Portrait) so this will be a great option ONLY if you're planning to purchase (or already own) a Silhouette. You can download the free program HERE.   This week's freebie is a Valentine's Day banner!

New file every FRIDAY -

Designs on Cloud 9 They have adorable Teddy bears and other cute characters!  Today's file is a sweet little snowman hiding behind a snowflake.

Pretty Paper, Pretty Ribbons offers a new free SVG file each Friday...cute stuff!  This week's freebie is a heart with a face and wings.

RANDOM days, but new files regularly -

SVG Cuts posted a new file this week with the release of their newest kit for purchase.  They offer TONS of free files!  I believe they have said that there are over 200 of them available right now.  Make sure to sign up for their newsletter too. Every time they send a newsletter, they include a new free file!

Scrappin Bug Designs has a great contest going on right now for a Silhouette Cameo giveaway!  Grab your free SVG files and then go check out their Facebook fan page!  They're also giving out Fan Appreciation Freebies (really cute ones!) periodically as they reach Facebook fan goals.  They will announce new freebies on their Facebook fan page.  NOTE:  I haven't seen any new freebies from these guys this week, but will keep their link up for a few more weeks just in case that changes.

If you know of any other great sites I've missed who post new free files at least once a week, please let me know!!

Christmas Card Catch-Up Week 4

Hi peeps!  Thanks for coming back to another Christmas Card Catch-Up!  I officially have 5 cards done and waiting for Christmas!  Woohoo!  If you think I'm sounding a little off my rocker, and want to gently remind me that Christmas was over a month ago, you might want to read this post first!  For those of you who are caught up now, here's my card for this week:

Yup...it's another cut from the Silhouette store.  I know it may seem that I'm falling into a rut, but I REALLY love using my Cameo!!  It cuts intricate designs perfectly, and I never have to worry about how small I make something, or about it coming out only partially cut.  Why didn't I get a Cameo years ago?

So, I'm really loving this Christmas card.  Most of you know I'm a bit of a purple freak (and that's putting it mildly!) and I adore snowflakes, so this card was screaming my name when I first saw it.  The little frame for the sentiment was already part of the card's design, so it was super simple.  I added a little bling on the edges.  As I'm sitting here looking at the pics of the card, I'm thinking I might go back and add a little bling to some of the snowflakes too!

Here's a photo of the card closed so that you can see the whole effect.  I used some old cardstock from Cricut that has two different shades of the same color, one on the front side of the cardstock, and the other on the back.  It's perfect for this type of card!

Money-Saving Monday #20

Happy Monday gang!  Thanks for coming back and checking in!  I figured you might be getting tired of the page kits since we did them for three weeks in a row, so I found something else this weekend that I just fell in love with!!  This is completely NOT my idea, but I loved it so much that I wanted to share it.

I was looking on I Heart Organizing and saw an awesome way to organize your craft drawers to make room for all those little bits and pieces that don't necessarily have their own spot.  I would have done this project myself and taken pics to post, but I don't have a single drawer in my room!  I do however, have those photo storage boxes that Joann's and Michael's sells (like a shoe box) and I use quite a few of those for storage, so I've starting saving up my empty cereal and food boxes to organize the insides of those.

I love the fact that we crafters already have all the supplies needed to do this project!  There's no better way to save money than FREE!  And keeping all our small bits and bobs organized and easy to find, will keep us from wasting money on replacing stuff we already had but forgot about!

See I Heart Organizing's awesome blog post HERE, and if you decide to do this in your craft room, I would LOVE to see pics!!

Free-For-All Friday

If you're here for the Anything Goes Blog Hop, please scroll down to the next post.

Okay gang...there was enough feedback last Friday from my list of places that offer FREE SVG files weekly, that I've made a graphic and decided on a regular name!  So welcome to Free-For-All Friday!  Geez...I need to stop choosing names with -hyphens- in them!

As I mentioned last week, I finally have a machine that I can use to cut SVG files on, so I've become a collector of sorts.  The following companies generously provide FREE cutting files each week.  What a great way to build up your stash, and also get to see what kind of amazing talent is out there.

FREE SVG FILES:

New file DAILY -

Paper Piecings By Nikki has just starting adding a new free file DAILY!  They're really adorable!  Also, she has reduced the cost off all cutting files in her store to 99 cents (or less) each!  What a deal!

KaDoodle Bug Designs publishes new free files on Mondays and corresponding digi files on Tuesdays.  This week they have two free files...an adorable little Valentine's firefly, and a title that would easily go with it.

You can download the free program HERE

New file every FRIDAY -

Designs on Cloud 9  I won a gift certificate to this company last year, and they have the CUTEST stuff!  They have adorable Teddy bears and other cute characters!  Today's file is an adorable collection of birds and birdhouses.  (If its not posted yet, keep checking...it's scheduled to go up some time on Friday morning.)

Pretty Paper, Pretty Ribbons offers a new free SVG file each Friday...cute stuff!

Anything Goes Blog Hop

Welcome to the Anything Goes Blog Hop!! We are pleased to have you here. We hope you enjoy seeing all the fabulous projects on each blog in this hop. We are giving you two days to hop. We all know how busy lives can be:) Shelley, the host of this hop, has a great blog candy package for one lucky winner!  All you have to do is comment and be a follower on each blog in this little hop!  You should have started at Shelley's blog. If you didn't please go to the beginning. We don't want you to miss a single great project in this line up. You should have come from Robin's blog and your next stop should be Sarah W's blog. I will provide the full line up at the end of this post in case you have gotten lost along the way. Shelley ships to the US only.

Here's the double page scrapbook layout I've been working on.  It features my awesome son and daughter-in-law.  As I've mentioned in a previous post, they've been in the process of adopting a baby for a while.    Part of that process is to make a book with lots of pictures and information about themselves, that prospective birth mothers can look through to get a sense of what family they would like to choose to adopt their baby.  The photos in this layout are ones that a friend took for them to use in the book.

These are some of my favorite pictures of them...ever!  It shows some of their personality as a couple, and certainly shows their closeness and love for each other.

The paper and elements for the page came from one of the page kits I made recently from my stash.

The paper collection is Tin Type from Quick Quotes.  I love the colors and designs, and it works perfectly with the rustic colors and backgrounds of the photos.  I ruched my own ribbon under the title quote, and added a few brads for some detail.

I added their name in Thickers, and there's an old vintage key (probably from something I forgot about long ago!) just for fun!

Don't forget that Shelley has a great blog candy package up for grabs.  Please remember to read and follow her instructions to have your name dropped in the hat for a chance to win!

Christmas Card Catch-Up Week 3

Yay!  It's week 3 of our Christmas card journey and I'm still going strong!  I officially have three cards made for next Christmas!  If you think I'm a little nuts or you need to catch up, you can read this post to see what I'm so excited about!

This week's card is another cut from the Silhouette store.  This one is actually called a Christmas Card Kit.  When you purchase the file, it cuts the card, and the embellishments.  So the green strip of paper that looks like a ribbon, and the pieces on top of it that hold the sentiment, are all part of the "kit."

The best thing about this card is that it was SUPER easy!  It went together fast and didn't need much once it was assembled.  I need to get out of the mindset that every Christmas card I make has to take hours and hours to put together. I think that kind of a self-defeatist attitude is part of the reason I haven't made Christmas cards for the last few years.  It's okay to make them simple and easy!

Who's ready to join me?  3 down, 49 to go!

WOYWW #189

Happy Wednesday WOYWWers, and welcome to edition #189 of What's On Your Workdesk Wednesday!  This week finds my desk an utter disaster.  Now I know some of you just call it inspiration or crafty goodness, but this week, I'm calling it a mess!  You can't really tell from the angle of the photo, but the pile on the left of the desk is at least 6 inches high.  That goes way beyond anything I could justify other than just a really big pile!  There's also a newer Christmas layout I recently photographed, and a pack of some different Christmas paper I won.  And more piles!!

Okay, my goal for this week is to get this mess resolved, so I can take a beautifully boring photo of my clean desk for you next week!  And for those who like to hunt for the WOYWW badge/button, I remembered to hide it again this week.  I'm getting back into the swing of things finally!

Money-Saving Monday #19

It's Money-Saving Monday time again peeps!  Thanks so much for your enthusiastic response to the last two MSM posts about saving money by taking an inventory of your stash and making your own page kits. (See posts HERE and HERE if you want to catch-up.)  I've had a lot of fun doing it myself, and have rediscovered a lot of goodies I had completely forgotten about.  Plus, I'm hoping the challenge will help me discover new uses for existing product.

Here's a pic of another page kit I made last week.  The paper is from My Mind's Eye, that I won over at The Paper Retreat in conjunction with some adorable files from Cheryl at The Digi Bistro (thanks Melanie and Cheryl!)  I added some of my stash and came up with the following kit:

Then I added some photos and a little imagination, and this is the scrapbook layout that followed!

I had such a tough time taking a photo of this page!  I had to go back and re-shoot it several different times, since the Christmas lights in the pic were actually looking like bad glare, and seemed to be keeping my camera from focusing properly.  I'm telling you now...one day I WILL have an awesome DSLR camera!

So last week, Kathi from Design Originals By KC was sweet enough to email me a link about page kits and organizing that she found at I Heart Organizing a while back.  It's a very detailed tutorial about how the author organizes her photos, memorabilia and supplies to make enough layouts for an entire scrapbook.  The process is probably a little more in-depth than I would go, since I'm more about making a page or two at a time, rather than the whole book at once, but I must say I gleaned some really great information from the post.  Its definitely worth the read.  Thanks Kathi!

I hope you have a wonderful week, and get lots more page kits made!  And don't forget, if you have a great money-saving tip you would like to see featured here, please let me know!

Free-For-All Fridays

Happy Friday!!!  I wanted to start another weekly series, but I haven't decided on a graphic yet, and this is a working title, so bear with me!!  Since I have really started playing with my new Silhouette Cameo, I've noticed that there are TONS of generous paper crafters and companies out there who offer FREE SVG cuts weekly.  I think that is so sweet...and what an awesome way to do business!  Here's a list I've compiled of places that offer truly awesome free files for you to download.  If you decide to go take a peek, then while you're at some of these sites, look around...there is some incredible talent out there!!

Here's a list in no particular order.

FREE SVG FILES:

SVG Cuts offers TONS of free files!  I believe they have said that there are over 200 of them available right now.  Make sure to sign up for their newsletter too.  Every time they send a newsletter, they include a new free file!

Designs on Cloud 9  I won a gift certificate to this company last year, and they have the CUTEST stuff!  They have adorable Teddy bears, and there's a cute bear freebie on their site this week!

Paper Piecings By Nikki has a totally adorable little piggy file this week!

KaDoodle Bug Designs publishes new free files on Mondays and digi files on Tuesdays!

Little Scraps Of Heaven also publishes free SVGs on Mondays and digis on Tuesdays.  You can access their freebies through their blog or their Facebook fan page.

Miss Kate Cuttables actually has a DAILY freebie!

Pretty Paper, Pretty Ribbons offers a new free SVG file each Friday...cute stuff!

Scrappin Bug Designs has a great contest going on right now for a Silhouette Cameo giveaway!  Grab your free SVG files and then go check out their Facebook fan page!

So this is my usual list of weekly haunts!  There are a few other sites I check out from time to time, but these are the companies that I have noticed changing out their freebie files to new ones every single week.

For those of you who don't have a machine or software that cuts SVG files, there's something you might want to keep in mind.  Over a year ago, I knew I REALLY wanted a Silhouette or something similar, so even though I didn't have the machine yet, I started collecting SVG files, because I KNEW that I would have one eventually  and would have a nice collection of files to play with.  So, it's never too early to start looking around and collecting files.  And after all, aren't we all papercrafting "collectors?!"

If you know of any awesome companies I missed that offer free SVG files AT LEAST once a week, I would love to add them to this list!  Also, if there's enough interest, I would be glad to put together a weekly list of free digi files too.  Is that something you would be interested in?  Let me know in your comments!

Christmas Card Catch-Up, Week 2

Oh my goodness...we've made it to week TWO!  And I have two whole Christmas cards to show for it!  I think this might be a record.  Thanks to all of you for your support, and to those of you who are joining in, WE CAN DO THIS!

For this week's card, I decided to try an accordion style card using a Silhouette file for the cut, and I just altered it a little.  The snowflake paper is from DCWV and the rest is just scraps from my stash.  The sentiment is from Mark's Finest Paper Co.

Here's a shot of the card opened up...

The original cut file just had a flat picture of a wreath and a bow.  I decided to go a little 3-D and make a more realistic looking wreath.  It was made using a Martha Stewart Branch punch.  I really love the way it came out!

So....who's up for the challenge with me?  Have you got your first two Christmas cards of the year made yet?

WOYWW #188

Happy Wednesday (almost Wednesday in the US at least!) and welcome to What's On Your Workdesk Wednesday! Because of the holidays, I haven't been  participating for the last few weeks, and I've really missed it.  For those of you who may not have heard, WOYWW is a weekly peek at other crafter's desks. It's enthralling and incredibly addicting! It's fun to get to know other bloggers and get to see what they're working on and watch their creative processes each week!

On my desk this week, is a jumble of homemade page kits I've been putting together.  For better pics of some of them and an explanation of why I've been making them, you can go here first, and then here for pics.  We all need to save a little money after the holidays, so this is one way for me to do that...by using what I already have, and remembering what I actually HAVE available to me to use!

I plan on stopping by to visit as many of you as I can today.  I missed you guys!!

Money-Saving Monday #18

Happy new week!  As promised in last week's Money-Saving Monday, I spent a little time in my craft room putting some page kits together.  What did I learn in the process?  I learned that I have A LOT of crap and I better hurry up and start using it like crazy, or I'm gonna be in trouble and growing out of my scrap room before long!

I scoured Youtube for some tutorials about how to put page kits together, and while I found a few, most of them weren't quite what I was looking for.  I did find one that gave some very basic, helpful information, and it was enough to get me inspired and moving.

With that tidbit of information under my belt, I was ready to go!  I started by choosing two matching (or close to matching) papers for my base pages, (for double layouts) and then filled in with some coordinating patterns and colors. Then I got a paperclip and small sandwich baggie and started filling it with coordinating embellishments.  I started with ribbon.  I have a jar of ribbon scraps and ends that I like to save.  This was a great way to use a lot of those pieces that are normally buried and overlooked.  I continued on with my jars of brads and buttons.  Then I went for my binders with flat embellishments  i.e., bling, stickers, die cuts, etc.  I found ALL KINDS of awesome things that coordinated that I had totally forgotten about.  Here's what my first kit looked like when it was stacked and finished:

And below, you can see all the coordinating bits and pieces all spread out.

Here's a close-up of some of the embellishments I plan to use.  I even found a spray mist that matched everything, and sprayed it on a scrap of white cardstock to remind me that it would look awesome to use too.

Below are a couple of different kits I made using the super hot grey and yellow color scheme.  I love the music pages on this one:

And the polka dots on this one!

I cheated just a little on the kits below by using mostly one paper collection that I picked up when I went to the Quick Quotes warehouse sale last month.  I had a few full sheets from this collection and lots of scraps, so i just added some ribbon and embellishments, and viola!

I even found some matching title strips for some of these!

I've been looking for a way to use this light green burlap trim for a while now...I think I may have figured it out!

That's it for my home made page kits for now, but I think I'm on a roll so you may be seeing more of them soon!  So let's recap; For everything shown above, I strictly shopped my stash.  I didn't go out to purchase anything new for any of the kits.  I used ribbon scraps that I forgot I even had, for most of the kits.  Same with the embellishments...I had forgotten about most of the stuff that matched up perfectly with all that beautiful paper.

So, in the end, I have six new page kits that are ready to use at a moment's notice, if  feel like making a quick page, or if I go to a last minute crop.  And instead of spending $20 - $50 on a fancy page kit, mine were no extra money out of pocket!  Woohoo!!

Happy Scrapping! ~Amy E
