Mark's Finest Paper Scrapbook Challenge

Welcome to the Mark's Finest Paper Scrapbook Challenge.  This week will be a fun one!  Our theme is Spring and/or Easter...just in time for Easter Sunday!

This is the last week to submit an entry to try to win the Liberty Lady stamp set from MFP.  Next week we'll be giving away a different one, so make sure and get your entries in this week!  You have until next Wednesday 4/3.  The linky closes at 8 pm EST (5 pm PST.)

Every year in April, there's a town a few hours from ours that has a GIGANTIC tulip festival.  The soil and weather conditions in that area are perfect for growing tulips and daffodils, and they have some of the largest fields and growing companies this side of Holland!  When the tulips are in bloom, there's nothing but bright vivid color as far as the eye can see.

My page this week showcases pics of my sweet hubby in front of some of the tulip fields.  I'm really bummed about how the color came out in the photos of the pages.  The colors of the tulips are so much more brilliant and gorgeous than what you'll be able to see on your computer screen.

My page this week features some of the adorable stamps in the Mark's Finest Paper Rain Cloud set.  This was such a fun set to work with...there's little rain boots, and a frog holding an umbrella, and some adorable sentiments.

I hope you'll get to work on a Spring or Easter page and join us this week!

Lots Of News!

I've got LOTS to share with you today, but let's start with the most exciting first!  Do you remember THIS POST from last year?  It was a post introducing my son and daughter-in-law (among other things) and talking about their journey to adopt a baby.

After having to keep quiet for over a month (and you KNOW how hard that is for me!) and with happy tears in my eyes as I type, I can finally announce that I'M A GRANDMA!!!!!

I would like you to meet little Lincoln.  He was born last month and I have been chomping at the bit to talk about him and show you pictures of this gorgeous little man!  He weighed 7 pounds 10 ounces and was 21 inches long.  He's gained and grown  A LOT since then and is absolutely thriving.  Mommy and Daddy couldn't possibly be happier.  My son Chris has been calling Lincoln his little Superman, because he says, "Superman was adopted too."

Lincoln is the "pot of gold" at the end of a very long (and sometimes very painful) journey for Chris and Erin. They had a failed adoption prior to Lincoln.  Although I could never imagine what their pain was like, I was in pain of my own too, and a very sweet bloggie friend (she knows who she is ;) talked to me about her family's adoption and failed adoptions. She said, that as painful as they were, it worked out in the long run, because now they have the children that they do, and wouldn't trade that for anything in the world.  Now just looking at little Lincoln's face...I understand.

If you would like to read more about their journey, you can go check out Erin's blog.

In other fun news, I've been chosen to be next week's "Growing in Unity Gal" on the Unity Stamp Company's blog!  I'll be posting projects featuring Unity Stamps each day here, and will be featured on their blog next Wednesday.  What does this mean for you?  At the end of next week, I'll be picking a random winner from all the comments I've received on my Unity posts for the week, and that winner will receive their choice of two itty bitty stamps courtesy of Unity!  So be sure to comment every day to increase your chances!

Have you "liked" Scrap This Save That on Facebook yet?  We currently have 157 likes but I would love to see LOTS more faces there!  (get it?  lots more FACES on FACEBOOK?  Oh geez, I crack myself up sometimes!!  ha ha!) Stop by, join us, say hi and share with your friends.  I'm planning on putting lots of new and interesting goodies up soon!

Last but not least, today is the last day for you to link up your scrapbook page on the Mark's Finest Paper ning site. The linky will close at 8 pm EST tonight (5 pm PST) and since there is only ONE entry, your chances are REALLY good of winning a stamp set!!!  Stop by and check it out!

Free Cutting Files!

Happy Friday and TGIF!!  The weekend is finally here!!  I'm excited to download all my free files for the week and then head into my craft room.  I haven't spent nearly enough time crafting lately and I'm really starting to miss it.  I think I've decided to slow down on some of these weekly posts and start focusing more on posting creations again.  Well, that and of course sales and bargains!  This is just a slow time of the year for deals though, but we can focus on lots of other ways to save money on our crafting supplies!

So for now, I'm going to try to work out a way to post all of the freebies links below in a box on my sidebar. It should work...as long as I'm able to figure out how to do it!

This week, the cuteness factor definitely goes to Miss Kate Cuttables.  This little campfire she's offering is just adorable!  Remember though, that she offers DAILY freebies, so this one will only be free for you to download TODAY, 3/22/13.  After that, it goes into her 50 cent area...still a bargain though!

FREE SVG FILES:

New file DAILY -

Paper Piecings By Nikki offers a free file each day, and I must say, I'm surprised that the quality of them is so high.  A lot of companies that offer free files give you ones that are very simplistic, but Nikki's are not.  They're really great!  Once the day is over, the freebie file gets moved into a folder where you can purchase it for 50 cents.  All of her other cutting files are only 99 cents.  What a deal!  Today's free file is a Cute Caterpillar.

Miss Kate Cuttables actually has a DAILY freebie too!  Today's file is a little campfire with a cute face!

KaDoodle Bug Designs publishes new free files on Mondays and corresponding digi files on Tuesdays.  Now it seems they've really been outdoing themselves lately by also giving an assortment of free phrases each week!  We're receiving a phrase that says, "Lucky Charm" and a mushroom as our freebies of the week.

New file every TUESDAY -

For those of you that own a Silhouette machine, don't forget that the Silhouette store has a free cutting file each Tuesday.  You need to download the free program to your computer (even if you don't own a Silhouette machine yet) to access the store.  Please keep in mind that the files aren't SVGs...they will only cut on a Silhouette brand machine, (SD, Cameo, or Portrait) so this will be a great option ONLY if you're planning to purchase (or already own) a Silhouette. You can download the free program HERE.   This week's freebie is a bundle of Easter shapes; a bunny, a chick, and a Happy Easter Phrase.

Mark's Finest Paper Scrapbook Challenge #7

It's Thursday, and that means it's time for another scrapbook layout challenge over at the Mark's Finest Paper "ning" site!  This week we're doing a sketch challenge!  This is only the second time I've ever used a sketch and I think I'm starting to get the hang of it.

This week, you have another opportunity to win the Liberty Lady stamp set from MFP.  Since this is a new challenge, the entries are still low, so you have great odds at winning!  As a matter of fact, when you join the "ning" site (it's even free to join!) there's TONS of weekly challenges you can enter.  I think there's currently 7 or 8 of them!  Each one gives you the opportunity to win different MFP stamp sets each week.  It's a great way to really challenge yourself, and you might even end up adding to your stamp collection for FREE!

Here is the sketch we're using this week to build our scrapbook layout.  It's graciously been shared with us from Pagemaps.  Remember, you can turn the sketch sideways, use different embellishments, do whatever you want to personalize it and make it yours.

Here's my take on the sketch:

This is a layout I made featuring my husband and our poor little willow tree!  My husband grew up in a farming town in Central Washington.  When he was in junior high school, he rooted and planted two cuttings of willow trees.  We went back to visit his childhood home a few years ago, and the trees are gigantic...some of the biggest and most beautiful weeping willows I've ever seen.  He and his sister each decided to take a cutting to grow their own trees.  His sister lives in the same general area, and we live about 150 miles away, in completely different climate conditions.

Well...his sister's tree absolutely thrived, and ours...let's just say ours is struggling a little.  Okay, A LOT!  The two pics above show each tree (that were planted at the same time) just a day apart.  My husband is taller than our tree, yet his sister's tree is easily twice his height!  (It also may be interesting to note in the photos, that it's rainy and cloudy where we live, near Seattle, and there's always blinding sun where his sister lives!)

I used the All Postal stamp set from Mark's Finest Paper for the cute little postage stamps.  I also used a couple of cuts from the Silhouette Store; Butterfly Border 1 and 3-D Cutout Butterfly.  The paper was just stuff from my stash.  I did some faux stitching with a white Gelly Roll pen.

Here's a close-up of one of the butterflies and a stamp.  I love the way the MFP stamps come out so clean and crisp! Wow...I sound like a commercial!  I really do love them though!

Please consider joining us this week!  You can use any brand of stamp sets you would like on your layout.  They don't have to be MFP stamps.  See you there!

Purple Christmas Tree Card

Welcome to week 12 of Christmas Card Catch-Up.  Week 12 means that I have 12 Christmas cards all ready to go when December rolls around this year.  This is the first time EVER that I'm ahead of the game when it comes to Christmas cards!  Yay!

This week I chose to do a Silhouette cut called, "3 Tree Christmas Card Kit."  This is another card kit like I was talking about last week.  It comes with all the pieces and all you have to do is choose your colors and stack things together once they're cut.  I LOVE the simplicity.

Although it's a little hard to tell in the photo, the center tag is actually four layers deep  Two of the layers are scalloped, so it gives a nice depth when you see it in person.  The trees are incredibly ornate and delicate.  They weren't super easy to get off the cutting mat, but definitely worth the trouble once you see the over-all product!

How are you coming along on your Christmas cards?  Good, I hope!

Mark's Finest Paper Scrapbooking Challenge

Hi!  Thanks for stopping by to see my entry for the Mark's Finest Paper, a Heinrich Co. Scrapbooking Challenge.  This week, in honor of March 17th quickly arriving, the challenge is to make something with a St. Patrick's Day theme.

This week, a random winner will be chosen to receive the Liberty Lady Mini Stamp Set.  Since this is a newer challenge, the entries are still low, so you have an excellent chance of winning!

For my layout, I decided to do a page for our wedding album.  Our wedding anniversary is this week, and even though we were married eight years ago, (and I may or may not be done with our wedding scrapbook!) I still love making pages and taking that awesome stroll down memory lane.

I used my Silhouette Cameo to cut out the Lucky In Love phrase and the shamrocks.  Both of those cuts are available in the Silhouette store.  I used the offset button on each cut while it was highlighted to make a shadow for each item, then I added a little bling since I'm all about the bling!

I used the Christmas Greetings stamp set from Mark's Finest Papers, A Heinrich Co.  The stamp set doesn't seem to be available in their store any longer, but you can get the same sentiment in a different set called Mini Christmas Wishes.

Please come join us for the challenge this week.  Remember, you need to use a stamp on your layout.  It doesn't have to be a Mark's Finest Paper stamp, but if you do use an MFP stamp, you'll get double entries!  You have until next Wednesday at 8 pm EST to link up.

Blue and Green Joy Christmas Card

Happy Wednesday to you!  Welcome to card #11 of Christmas Card Catch-Up.  This week I chose a snowflake (like that's a big surprise since I LOVE snowflakes!) card with a sweet little tag that says, "JOY" on the front.  This is a Silhouette cut called, "Card Holiday Snowflake Joy."  Hmmm...some of those names are just so original!  Ha ha!

This cut file is actually what Silhouette calls a card kit.  I really love these because you get everything you need for the card in your purchase.  This one came with the tags and "ribbon" as well as the card itself.  It all fits and matches!!  I used a dark blue cardstock with a while background on the inside for my snowflake.  I used lighter blue and green for the ribbons and tags and then although it's hard to see in the photo, I put tiny green heat-set bling on the white part of the scalloped ribbon.  And then there's also a big rhinestone right in the center of the snowflake.

Have you started on your Christmas cards yet?

Awesome Paper Punch Storage

Happy Monday to you!  For today's Money-Saving Monday submission, I wanted to share the way I store my paper punches.  I've seen this idea multiple times, but can't remember where I first saw it.  It's definitely not my original idea though!

I bought some super cheap Ikea Bygel towel rails and installed them on my wall in a little corner, and my punches stand up in them perfectly!  I have a few larger punches that there wasn't room for that I keep in small storage boxes, but the majority of them fit in these rails on the wall, and are displayed so that I can easily find what I need.

Do you have any money-saving tips you would like to share?  I'm running out of ideas!!

Three B's Challenge at Mark's Finest Paper

It's time for another scrapbooking challenge over at Marks' Finest Paper, a Heinrich Co.  If you love stamps, you should REALLY check it out!  Since it's a new challenge and we're just getting the word out, there are still low entries, which mean a HIGH chance of winning a prize!

This week's prize is the Liberty Lady Mini stamp set.  To join us in the challenge, simply make a scrapbook layout that uses a stamp somewhere on it.  Remember, you don't have to use a Marks' Finest paper stamp set to enter the challenge, but if you do, you'll receive double entries towards the random prize drawing.

This week, the challenge is to make a layout using three Bs.  That means that you have to use three things on your page that begin with the letter B.  For my layout, I chose blossoms, bling, and babies.  Okay, they're adults, but they're MY babies!!!  These photos were taken last September when my son came up to visit from Texas for the weekend.  He, my daughter, and my daughter's boyfriend sat on the couch and were just being goofballs for hours.  I started snapping pics and what you see are some of the tame ones!  I have a second page I put together of some of the more crazy shots.  Let's just say there may have been some birds flying!

I used paper and a quote from Quick Quotes.  I wish the color had shown up properly in the photo...the layout is actually a beautiful combination of yellows and grays  but just looks sort of washed out on my computer screen :(   I WILL get an awesome DSLR camera one of these days!

I made a little tag that I popped up using the All Postal stamp set from Mark's Finest Papers, a Heinrich Co. I used Versamark ink and then embossed it in a very pale pink color.  I love the way it "popped" against the grey paper!!!

Please come and join us!!  You have until next Wednesday to get your entries linked up!

Happy Scrapping! ~Amy E
