Oh Shell, I Forgot!

Happy Wednesday and welcome to another edition of the Purple Passion Column on Marks' Finest Paper!  It's my weekly fix of purple...although I pretty much use it in everything I make...even when I try not to!

For today's card I went mostly green with just a nice little matting of purple for good measure.  I love purple, but sometimes other colors are appropriate for a project, so it's nice to have just a little touch of purple in there!

I used the ADORABLE stamp set from Mark's Finest Paper called Shello.  It just came out a few weeks ago and I'm just in love with it.  Some of the sentiments are hilarious and the turtles are super cute in their own scaly, turtlish way!  I decided to make a belated birthday card with "Oh shell, I forgot" on the front and then the classic "Happy birthday" on the inside.  I "popped up" the turtle and sea plant and added some ribbon to break up the monotony.  I finished it off with a little ribbon and called it good!  Now that I'm looking at the pics, I might go back and add a second turtle on the inside of the card.

Have an AWESOME day!!!

Mark's Finest Paper Scrapbook Challenge

Wow...it's almost August!  What happened to July?  What happened to January for that matter!  The time is just racing along these days.  I guess that's what happens as you start to get older...ugh!

So, another week has zoomed by as well and now it's time for the Mark's Finest Paper Scrapbook Challenge.  In corresponding with the MFP Christmas in July blog hop that's starting in a few days, we're all doing Christmas themed layouts this week.  So the challenge is to make a layout using a Christmas theme!

Remember this challenge is strictly scrapbook layouts, no cards please.  You have to use stamps on your pages. They don't have to be Marks Finest Papers, a Heinrich Co stamps but if you do use them you will be entered twice for a chance to win.  And here's the super-cute stamp you could possibly win this week!

I'm going to be the first to admit that I'm not 1000% satisfied with how my page turned out this week.  It's acceptable but not up to my own usual standards.  I may even scrap it and start back over again at some point but this was just a particularly tough week for finding my mojo.

I grabbed a few photos taken on Christmas morning 2011...most of them showing some of the presents we received.  I thought this would be a nice tie in with the brand new Mark's Finest Paper stamp set I used called Presents!  It's an adorable set that will work for Christmas or birthdays, with several images of gifts on it.

I used three different images and randomly stamped the presents all over a piece of white cardstock in several different colors.  Then I decided to glimmer mist the whole page.  I think that's where I made my biggest mistake, because the page curled and I didn't have to time flatten it before making my layout. So instead, I just cut a huge banner out of my favorite part of the page and added it to different patterned cardstock. I threw some cute stickers from my stash on for added embellishment and called it DONE!

Please consider joining us this week!  You have until next Wednesday at 8 pm EST to link up your page!

Blue Hawaii Card

It's the middle of the week again and that means it's time for another edition of Purple Passion over at MFP Speedy TV. Every week I showcase a card or project using a stamp or stamp set from Mark's Finest Paper, and my very favorite color...PURPLE!

This week, I decided to use a stamp that came out recently, from the Mark's Finest paper set called I Need A Vacation. I love the tropical feel and the images are gorgeous!   I stamped an image of the tree in the set onto white cardstock with black Memento ink.  Then I went to town with my Tim Holtz Distress Inks in shades of blue.  I started with the lightest shade first and then worked my way out with darker shades. This is a technique I do often because I just love the effect.

Instead of going entirely blue with this card, I've matted the image in purple.  Sometimes just the smallest little bit of purple is all that's needed to make a big impression!  And of course, as we all know...purple rocks!!

Mark's Finest Paper Scrapbook Challenge...Anything Goes!

Happy Thursday!  It's time for another Scrapbook Challenge over at Mark's Finest Paper!   This week is one of my favorites...ANYTHING GOES!!  I love it when we have the anything goes challenges, because it gives me a chance to catch up on my random pages!

So...a little background on my layout...A few years ago my daughter and I took a trip to New England and while we were there we visited this awesome butterfly conservatory in Massachusetts.  We were in a large enclosed greenhouse-type room with THOUSANDS of butterflies!  There were all different kinds, and tons of varieties I didn't even know existed!  The photo in the center of my page shows a close up of one that had see-thru  wings!  The outside of it's wings were bright orange with a brilliant white stripe, but the inside were invisible!

I started my layout with a gorgeous piece of purple cardstock with butterflies on it that my sweet friend AJ gave me a long time ago.  I thought it was the perfect base for a page about a butterfly farm!  I used two punched borders that my friend Rexann gave me a while back.  Apparently I had been collecting butterfly stuff for just the right page!  Ha ha!  The "Beautiful" title is from the Cricut Tinkerbell cartridge.

The stamps I used are from the brand new sets that Mark's Finest Paper just released this week.  They are from the Be Virtuous Set and the Lotus Blossoms Set.  I stamped each on waterolor paper with Versamark ink and heat embossed with black embossing powder.  Then I used a water brush and several different colors of Tim Holtz Distress Ink to color them in. I used watercolor pencils to finish off the backgrounds of both images.

I hope you'll come link up with us this week!  You have until next Wednesday at 8 pm EST to join us.  See you there!

Dinosaur Birthday Card

Happy hump day!  It's Wednesday and that means another edition of Purple Passion over at MFP Speedy TV!  Purple Passion is my weekly column over there using Mark's Finest Paper's stamps and ALWAYS some purple!

I love love love me some purple, and today is no exception.  I started with THE cutest little MFP stamp set called Dino News.  At first glance, I thought, "Oh how cute...a kid's stamp set."  Then I looked closer at the sentiments!!!

LOVE this one!!  It says, "So, what were the dinosaurs like you YOU  were Young?"  Hahahahaha!  This will be the PERFECT stamp set to make cards for all  my "older" friends this year!!!

On the inside, I just have a plain and simple, Happy Birthday.  I decided to add the RRROAR! in at the last minute.  It just added that little something!!

To make my card, I used some old Bo Bunny cardstock that's been in my stash forever, and then of course some purple and some green cardstock.  I used black Memento ink to stamp pictures and sentiments and then finished everything off with some rich cream colored ribbon.  YAY purple!

Mark's Finest Paper Scrapbook Challenge

Yay, it's Thursday!  Only one more day 'til the weekend gets here!  Tomorrow is my sweet daughter's birthday, so I'm looking super forward to the weekend!

Happy scrapbook challenge day too!  This week over at the MFP Speedy TV Scrapbook Challenge we're working with die cuts.  The challenge is to create a layout using die cuts or punched shapes.  You can also fussy cut a stamped image for this challenge.

So, I'm still in a little bit of the 4th of July mode.  I have SO MANY photos from our neighborhood celebrations each year, that I'm really trying to get them all put together on layouts.  I think I'm mostly done! The pics below are all from 2010.  It was a cold day that year and we were all wearing jackets...in July!

For the die cut portion of my layout, I turned to my trusty Silhouette Cameo and the Silhouette store.  The blue star background is called Stars Screen 12 x 12.    The woman with the flag is called the Betsy Ross Silhouette.  The circle and scalloped edge I used to stamp on, and the little 4th of July sign are both from a file called 4th of July Labels.

The cute little sentiment I used (I thought it was PERFECT with the Betsy Ross Die cut) is from the USA Heroes mini stamp set.  It comes with all kinds of awesome phrases.

I hope you'll join us over at Mark's Finest Paper for this week's challenge.  You have until next Wednesday at 8 pm EST to link up.  See you there!

Another Purple Christmas Card!

Happy hump day!!!  Welcome to another edition of my weekly column at Mark's Finest Paper, called Purple Passion. I'm SO GLAD you could join me!

I'm still on a Christmas-card-making-jag, so here's another one for ya...in all it's purple glory!

I used MFP's retired stamp set, Christmas Greetings for the cute sentiment.  I love this stamp and still use it a lot!  I embossed the white piece of cardstock with a Cuttlebug Snowflakes folder and then cut some purple banners to go on top. I covered the top of the banners with an un-embossed piece of matching white cardstock with my sentiment stamped on it.  I found the cute mitten and hats on some of my really old patterned paper and used my Epiphany Crafts Round 25 tool to make the little embellishments for the banners.  I finished everything off with a pretty purple bow!

Mark's Finest Paper Scrapbook Challenge

Happy Thursday to you...and for you readers in the US, happy 4th of July!!  Thanks for joining me for another Scrapbook Challenge over at Mark's Finest Papers!  This week, we have a color challenge. In honor of Independence Day, use red, white and blue, and one additional color of your choice.

Remember this challenge is strictly scrapbook layouts, no cards please, and you have to use stamps on your layouts. They don't have to be Marks Finest Papers, a Heinrich Co stamps, but if you do use them you will be entered twice for a chance to win the stamp set for this week.

I think I've mentioned this before, but in case I haven't or you're new here, I just LOVE our neighborhood on the 4th of July every year.  The whole street gets together in our cul de sac and has a huge picnic and just hangs out and catches up.  It's really our one time of the year to connect with each other.  After dinner, we clear the tables and food, and everyone pools their fireworks together and we have an explosive good time (see what I did there?  Ha ha!)  A few of the neighbors go a little nuts and bring the REALLY good stuff.  I swear, it rivals some of the professional fireworks shows!

My layout contains photos of my daughter (far left corner) and some dear friends and neighbors over the past few years. I have so many 4th of July pics, they're all starting to run together, but I know that the ones in my layout were from 2008 (we froze that year!) and 2009 (super warm that year!)

I used a couple of Silhouette files for the background and the banner, and the cute star from MFP's  USA Heroes mini stamp set,  A quick and easy layout this week!

I hope you'll consider joining us for this week's challenge  You have until next Wednesday evening at 8 pm EST to link up.  Have a  safe and FABULOUS 4th!!

Merry Purple Christmas!

Woohoo!  It's Christmas in July!  At least that's going to be my excuse for making Christmas cards this month!  It's also my day for the weekly column over at MFP Speedy TV.  Purple is my favorite color and that's what my column is about each and every Wednesday...come check it out!

I was playing around on Pinterest this past weekend, looking for some inspiration.  I'll be honest, although I think Pinterest is a cool idea, I haven't become completely addicted to it the way a lot of people have.  But this weekend may have changed things for me!  I found SO MANY IDEAS for Christmas cards!  It was a lot of fun!  I think I still have a way to go, but I think addiction might come one of these days!

I used a Provocraft Snowflake embossing folder for the banners and a Silhouette Scallop border for the scalloped piece. I used two snowflake punches (that I got at a garage sale for 25 cents each last weekend!!) for the embellishment.  The cute Merry Christmas sentiment comes from Mark's Finest Paper's, You Are An Angel stamp set that was just released a few weeks ago.
