Beachy Layout

The long weekend is coming!  Woohoo!!  Happy almost Labor Day weekend!  I hope you have something fun planned.  I have no idea what we're going to do yet, but it's sure to be a blast!

So, since it's Thursday, it's time for another Scrapbook Challenge over at MFP Speedy TV.  I'm thinking that since it's a holiday weekend AND the 5th Thursday of the month, Gemiel decided to take it easy on us this week, and is giving us another ANYTHING GOES theme!

Remember this challenge is strictly scrapbook layouts, no cards please.  You have to use stamps on your pages. They don't have to be Marks Finest Papers, a Heinrich Co stamps but if you do use them you will be entered twice for a chance to win.  And here's the super-cute stamp you could possibly win this week!

I decided to do another double page layout this week.  I know...surprise surprise!  I just love 2-page layouts for some reason.  I guess they look more cohesive in the scrapbooks.  Or maybe, it just gives me more room to tell my story. For this layout, I used pics of my adorable hubby from a few years back when we went on a day trip to the beach. After I had finished most of the layout and adhered the title, "Ocean Shores,"  I realized that was the wrong beach on that particular trip...oops!  So I may or may not go back and try to fix the title!

I used a page kit I picked up a few weekends ago at a scrapbook destashing sale me and some friends had.  We all sold lots of stuff, but also ended up buying TONS of each other's stuff!  I found some page kits I liked and bought them up!  I love page kits because so many of the choices are already made for you, but you can still add in whatever you want to make it your own!

Most everything I used except ribbon and most of the letters were from my kit.  I found a few other embellishments from my stash that fit perfectly.

I made the majority of this layout at my friend's crop on Tuesday, and while I was getting things laid out and positioned how I wanted, I dropped my chipboard letter, "B" onto the floor.  I hunted all over and couldn't find it.  Eventually, someone else noticed my friend's puppy chewing on the letter!  It was mostly gone by the time we found it!  Haha!  So I did a little improv and ended up cutting the letter out of some of the paper in the kit, popping it up, and adding some color coordinated bling.  Presto...a happy accident!

I found the sentiment from the new Mark's Finest Paper Pocket Watches stamp set, to fit in perfectly with the mood of the page!

I would love to see you link up with us this week!  You have until next Wednesday evening at 8 pm EST!  See you there!

Not Without My Coffee!

Happy Tuesday scrappers and welcome to my coffee addiction!  It's my day to write my Purple Passion column over at MFP Speedy TV!  I always like to show you how to use my favorite color, PURPLE in your projects, even when traditionally, purple wouldn't necessarily work.  Today is a good example; how do you work purple into a card about coffee?

Well for starters, I found an adorable cut file in the Silhouette Store.  It's supposed to be a gift card holder, but I made a few modifications to make it into just a regular card.

I used the adorable Mark's Finest Paper's Oh Beans stamp set.  The outside "cup sleeve" is stamped with coffee beans and the inside has the sentiment and the stacked coffee cups image.  I used Elizabeth Crafts Glitter Ritz for the sparkle on the cups.  You can see a tutorial of this awesome stuff HERE.  After I got all the glitter in place, I used an old purple off-brand stamp pad to color the cups and then I used the coffee image again to stamp the insides of the cups.

.

Now...go use purple and make something awesome!  See you tomorrow!

Embellish It...This Week At Mark's Finest Paper!

It's time for this week's Scrapbook Challenge over at MFP Speedy TV!  Our newest challenge is to make a scrapbook page using at least three embellishments.  I have to admit, I may have gone a little overboard!  I have used embellishments galore!

I'm loving the daisies!

Here's some more photos from the same east coast trip in 2007 that I used last week.  While we were in New York, we just HAD to jump on the Staten Island Ferry so we could get a closer view of the Statue of Liberty!  The Statue was closed for renovations while we were there, so we couldn't go onto Ellis Island, but the view we had was absolutely gorgeous!  And of course, I had to throw in some pics of my cute daughter!

For my pages this week, I used some really cute papers from my stash that had clear overlays that really add a little something extra.  Unfortunately, they are so shiny, they don't photograph well!  I really dug deep in my stash of embellishments and stuff that I had put aside for Smash*booking and found all kinds of goodies I had forgotten I even owned!  Don't you love/hate it when that happens?!?

I had some die cuts made from Kraft paper that I had totally forgotten about, so I stamped some cute sentiments on them.  The first one (above) is from MFP's All Postal stamp set.  I keep finding myself going back to this set over and over.  I think I've probably used it in at least one project a month since it came out...and that's just on the projects I've posted!

The second sentiment is a new favorite of mine and came out just this month on the Take Time stamp set.  I feel like I'm going to be using this sentiment a lot too on my pages in the future!

Please join us this week for our embellishment challenge!  You have until next Wednesday at 8 pm EST to link up. See you there!!

You Are An Angel

Happy Wednesday to you!  It's hump day!!!  Woot!  And it's also time for another installment of my Purple Passion column over at MFP Speedy TV.  Each week, I show an example of how to incorporate purple in your projects. Sometimes it's a little and sometimes it's A LOT!

This week, I decided to go for another card using Tim Holtz Distress Inks by Ranger.  I've done a total of three of these in the past few months and I just love the technique.  This time, I chose a Christmas stamp set from Mark's Finest Papers called You Are An Angel.  I wanted to make a golden light effect around her head and halo, so I chose various shades of yellows and oranges for my color palette.  After stamping my image with Black Memento ink, I started with the lightest yellow and covered the entire page.  Then I used the next darkest color and didn't go quite to the center.  A little less for the third color, and so on until the darkest orange was used just around the edges of the page.

I love the effect of purple and orange together since they're on the opposite sides of the color wheel, so I had to put a purple mat behind my main picture.  I mounted all of that onto a yellow card base that matched the yellow in my inks, and voila!

Anything Goes Scrapbook Challenge!

Happy Thursday!  Only one more day til the weekend!  Woohoo!  I always look so forward to the weekends so I can hang out with my adorably sweet hubby!  Even if we don't do anything particular, it's still so special.  I'm SO sappy when it comes to him!  Ha ha.

To hold us over until the weekend gets here, it's time for another Scrapbook Challenge over at MFP Speedy TV.  This week is one of my favorite challenges...Anything Goes!  And as an extra treat, all the DT members will be using new release stamps this week!

Here's my offering for this week.  Back in 2007 My daughter and I went on a trip to the east coast to check out a university she was considering doing her graduate work at.  Well, we just HAD to go hang out in New York City for a few days!  And of course, HAD to experience the subway!  It was definitely interesting, and just one of those things that we can say we've done!

I used photos of my sweet daughter and our good friend Sarah.  They're such posers!  Ha ha!

I used some paper from a DCWV Autumn stack that I've had in my stash for a while  They had several different coordinating patterns so I decided to mix and match.  I also went a little nuts with the embellishments, so the layout is busy, but I love the way it turned out.  I dug into my stash of Smash*book goodies to find some stickers and journaling cards to kind of set things off.

Now...as I've already mentioned, you must use a stamp to enter the challenge, and I've used a new one from Mark's Finest Papers.  Can you see it?  Look closer!

I used the awesome new set called Pocket Watches.  I actually had some Mango Mai Tai Quick Quotes Chalking ink that matched my background paper beautifully.  I used the HUGE image from the Pocket Watches set and just stamped it over and over on the paper to make my own custom-made background!  I LOVE the way it came out!  I've included a pic of what the stamp set looks like, so you can hopefully see the image a little better on the paper.  I wish you could see it in person...it's gorgeous!

I hope you'll consider joining us this week!  You have until next Wednesday evening at 8 pm EST to link up. See you there!

Happy Holidays With A Cute Deer

Happy hump day!!!  Welcome to the middle of the week and to my next installment of Purple Passion on MFP Speedy TV.  This is my weekly post about using my favorite color, PURPLE!

Mark's Finest Paper has just released a stamp set I'm ABSOLUTELY in LOVE with!  It's called Joyous Season, and it's awesome!!  It has a few sentiments, and then a really big stamp with a deer laying in the woods.  Although she is laying on a bed of evergreens, I could totally see this stamp working for all kinds of other cards too, besides just Christmas themed ones.

I stamped my image with black Memento ink on Kraft paper so that I could start with a light brown base.  I wanted to be able to color the birch trees white.  I used watercolor pencils to color the image.  I mounted the two pieces of Kraft on a darker brown and then put everything on...you guessed it...PURPLE!

Inside the card, I used another sentiment and image from the same stamp set.  I LOVE this set!!

Beth Kingston's Garage Sale? Yes Please!

Happy Monday and cheers to a brand new week!  I thought I should probably resurrect the old Money-Saving-Monday series and start working on it again.  It's a great series and I've been slacking, so here we go!

As you may have read in past Money-Saving-Monday posts, I love to save money on crafty goodness and organization any way I can, and during the summer months, one great (and fun) way to do that is by rummaging around at garage sales!  Most of us craft hoarders enthusiasts love to hang on to our goodies, but every now and then you see a table at a garage sale with a few trinkets that have been purged from someone's stash, and if you act quickly enough before the next crafter knocks you out of the way spots the treasures, you might just walk away with some great bargains.

Whenever I'm in garage sale mode (usually a few times a year) I will scour Craigslist looking for the magic words...."scrapbooking supplies."  I'll see who has the best stuff and map out a plan for the morning.  With coffee and tea in hand and quarters in pocket, me and husband will set out at the crack of dawn (that's usually around 9 am for us!) in search for the mother lode.   That is, until this past weekend...

Photo borrowed from Beth's blog, Ain't She Crafty.

Meet Beth Kingston.  Actually, I just reread that statement and saw how silly it looked.  I'm sure the majority of you already know who Beth is.  She's the spokesperson for Xyron and hangs out at a fun little place we all know as HSN...the Home Shopping Network!  She has everyone's dream job...she gets paid to craft.  Last month, her and her husband relocated to my little corner of the country and we became neighbors...well, if you don't count the toll bridge, body of saltwater and 40-ish miles between us.  So, the other night, I was poking around Facebook, trying to catch up on my news feed, and I see a little post from Beth about her and her husband preparing for a garage sale on Saturday along with the rest of their community...a community that just happens to be about 45 minutes away from my house. As I read the list of goodies she was offering up for sale, the heavens opened up and I think I heard angels singing (or my dogs howling...but just go with it!)

Early (and I mean EARLY) last Saturday morning, me and husband and my scrappy friend Becky and her puppy Crystal, set out on our adventure!  We arrived at Beth's about an hour before the general sale started (she had told us that it would be fine to do that, or I never would have...that's just bad garage sale etiquette!!)  and we were met with tables and bins of the best crafty goodness ever!  We shopped and we shopped and we bargained and we wrestled bartered (Becky and I with each other...she still has a Scrappin' Easle I want really bad!!) and when it was all said and done, we walked away with our arms loaded with new (to us) scrappy goodies and a new friend.  Beth was a doll, as was her husband.  (proof-reading that last paragraph, I would like to clarify that our arms weren't actually loaded with Beth too, just the craft supplies.  Beth remained on her feet at all times!)

I meant to take pic while I was at her sale, but of course I got swept away into craft paradise, so I totally spaced it.  We went back a few hours later after hitting some other sales in the area, but her driveway was so packed with crafters, I don't think we could have even gotten on her property at that point!  It was a madhouse!  Later on in the day though, I checked trusty old Facebook, and noticed that Beth had posted a photo of the sale, and what do you know...the pic was of me and Becky bent over the tables rummaging through all the goodies!

Now...go find yourself a good garage sale!!  Happy shopping and...

Sisters Layout At MFP Speedy TV

Happy Thursday!  Welcome to this week's Scrapbook Challenge sponsored by Mark's Finest Paper!  The challenge this week is to make a scrapbook page using summer colors.  For me, I always think of the colors of sunshine and water. So I worked with yellow, orange and blues

On my page this week, I used pics of my girls.  They are from several different visits over several different years, but I thought it was so funny that they always have that same pose and same smile!

I dug deep in my stash, and found some paper I had, that came with overlays.  Although the shiny overlay was hard to photograph, I love the look in person.  I triple-matted each of the photos with summer colors, and used some of the same shades for the title.  I added some coordinating ribbon and a few dark blue jewels.

Since it's sneak peek week, I'm giving a little peek of one of the new sets!  It's called Take Time and will be available next week at Mark's Finest Papers.  I used one of the sentiments (that I foresee myself using A LOT in the future!) and the cute little watch, that I added just a little color too with some watercolor pencils.

I would really love to see you join us this week!  You have until next Wednesday at 8 pm (EST) to link up.  See you there!

What's Moo With You?

Yay!  It's Wednesday again!   Just a few more days til the weekend!  It's also my Purple Passion weekly column day over at MFP Speedy TV.  So sit back and get ready for some purple!

This is a fun week over at Mark's Finest Papers.  It's sneak peek time!!!!  Their August collection is coming out next week, so until then, the design teams get to give you little snippets of what's to come!  Here's my offering:

I used a new set called Country Charm. It's ADORABLE!  It came with the barn you see in the background, and some of the cutest little animals!  There's also some great sentiments including the "What's Moo?" that I used on the front of the card.

I stamped the cute cow on white paper with black Memento ink and then added a few pink spots in all the appropriate places with some watercolor pencils.  Couldn't be easier for the perfect cow!  I fussy cut and used pop dots to give it some dimension.  I used the same black ink on red cardstock for the barn, and then used fringe scissors to cut the grass in green.  Everything went on a purple card base, so I got my favorite color in there!!  It might not be much, but I think it goes beautifully with the other colors on the card!

I hope your week is going AWESOME!  See ya tomorrow for a new Scrapbook Challenge!

Free SVG Cutting Files!

Happy Friday!!  I thought it might be time to put up our Free-For-All Friday post again so you can catch up on some FREE SVG files!

This week, Bird's Cards blew me away with her square diorama card!  I love this and can't wait to download it and try it!!

FREE SVG FILES:

New file DAILY -

Paper Piecings By Nikki offers a free file each day, and I must say, I'm surprised that the quality of them is so high.  A lot of companies that offer free files give you ones that are very simplistic, but Nikki's are not.  They're really great! Once the day is over, the freebie file gets moved into a folder where you can purchase it for 50 cents.  All of her other cutting files are only 99 cents.  What a deal!  Today's free file is a very realistic-looking crayon box.

Miss Kate Cuttables actually has a DAILY freebie too!  There are two files available today...words in a beautiful font.  One set is birthday words and the other set is boy words.

New file every MONDAY -

Little Scraps Of Heaven  You can access their freebies through their blog or their Facebook fan page.  This week's freebie is called Apple Car.  It's actually an adorable little raccoon driving a car made of an apple.  Now there's some imagination!

KaDoodle Bug Designs publishes new free files on Mondays and corresponding digi files on Tuesdays.  Now it seems they've really been outdoing themselves lately by also giving an assortment of free phrases each week! KaDoodle Bug has lots of freebies to choose from this week!  In keeping with a back to school theme that I'm noticing around the SVG sites, she has an owl holding an apple and some back to school phrases.  She's also still rotating surprise freebies that change at random times. Right now there is THE CUTEST puppy in a bubble bath!  But hurry if you want that one because it could go at any moment!

New file every TUESDAY -

For those of you that own a Silhouette machine, don't forget that the Silhouette store has a free cutting file each Tuesday.  You need to download the free program to your computer (even if you don't own a Silhouette machine yet) to access the store.  Please keep in mind that the files aren't SVGs...they will only cut on a Silhouette brand machine, (SD, Cameo, or Portrait) so this will be a great option ONLY if you're planning to purchase (or already own) a Silhouette. You can download the free program HERE.   This week's freebie is a really cool geometric background.  On their blog a few days ago, they showed how to cut it out in vinyl and put in on a cell phone case...totally neato! (wow...did I just say neato?)

New file every FRIDAY -

Designs on Cloud 9 They have adorable Teddy bears and other characters.  Lots of cuteness on this site!  This week we're being offered a chandelier.

Pretty Paper, Pretty Ribbons offers a new free SVG file each Friday.  She even offers a newsletter subscription to remind you.    This week's freebie is a really cute little clipboard.

My Scrap Chick offers a new file each Friday to her newsletter subscribers.  Click the link to subscribe.  This week's file is a tag that says, "Up 2 No Good."  I could TOTALLY see this on a child's scrapbook page!

RANDOM days, but new files regularly -

Birds Cards - is an awesome blog with all sorts of amazing freebies!  On the blog this week is some really cool cards.  There's a square easel card with a ship's wheel on it and an AWESOME boat diorama card.

SVG Cuts offers TONS of free files!  I believe they have said that there are over 200 of them available right now.  Make sure to sign up for their newsletter too. Every time they send a newsletter, they include a new free file!  Their latest offerings include a bird and a leaf, a wreath, and an ice cream sundae!

Happy downloading and cutting!
