Mark's Finest Papers Color Challenge #3

Hi!  Thanks for coming to our late edition of the Mark's Finest Papers Color Challenge this week!   We figured everyone might have more important stuff to do during the Christmas week than enter challenges, so our fearless leader thought it might be nice to bump it back a couple of days.  She's a smart woman!

This week, our colors are PURPLE and GOLD.

Since this is still a pretty new challenge, here's a reminder of the rules:

The Color Challenge is for all types of paper crafts, not just scrapbook pages. Each week we will have a color or colors that you have to incorporate in your project, and of course, you must use stamp(s) on the project.

The Color Challenge Guidelines are...
1. Please use the challenge colors as your main colors. You can use any shades or hues of the challenge colors.

2. You can add any neutral colors (browns, grays, white, cream, kraft etc) that you wish.

3. You can use an accent color in addition to the challenge colors, but it must be an accent only and not one of the main colors in your project.

4. You must use stamps on your project.

Remember your can create any type of project you want for this challenge but you must use stamp(s) on your project. They don't have to be Mark's Finest Papers, a Heinrich Co stamps but if you do use MFP stamps, you will be entered twice for a chance to win our weekly stamp prize.

I tried some new techniques this week and am really happy with the results, and I'm glad I did!  And my dear sweet hubby even helped me make the card!  We had fun.  He learned how to emboss (both dry and heat!) and ink.  He did an awesome job!

A few weeks ago, I was at a crop with some scrappy friends and a few of them brought their dyes to share with everyone.  I was able to use one to cut the cute little stocking on my card.  Although I have a Big Shot, I don't own any dies, so just that cutting process was new for me.  I'm a Silhouette Cameo girl!

And speaking of the Cameo, I used one of the files I got from the Silhouette Store called Brick Overlay Mask.  I cut it out in vinyl...well actually I used clear Contact paper, and cut on the vinyl settings.  I chose a grey cardstock (trying to think of the color of grout that holds brick together) and then once my Cameo was done working its magic, I stuck the Contact paper to my cardstock, making a mask/stencil.  I used Tim Holtz Distress ink in Fired Brick and dabbed it all over the card front unevenly...kind of like how real brick would be colored.  When I peeled off the mask (which peeled off perfectly easily) I had bricks on my page!  And a bonus...I can reuse the mask over and over.  I'll toss it eventually when it loses it's sticky, but for now, I have a mask that was just pennies!

Next, sweet hubby helped me dry emboss a piece of kraft cardstock with a wood grain pattern and then gently inked just the top embossed part with more Distress ink.  We cut it down and used it as a mantle to hang the stocking.  Then I added some ribbon that looks like garland and some gold brads to decorate the "mantle."

I finished off the card with a cute sentiment from the Mark's Finest Papers Holly Jolly Greetings stamp set.
This set is ADORABLE!

I hope you'll break out your purple and gold and join us this week for the color challenge!  You have until next Wednesday at 5 pm PST to link up.

A Purple Christmas

Oops!  I'm late getting this post and project published because I got caught up in celebrating the holiday with my husband, daughter, and son-in-law-to-be.  It was wonderful!  I hope you had an awesome day too!

Even though it's a little after the fact now, I wanted to share one of my last Christmas cards of the season!  I made a thick, full, white wreath with some scraps and my trusty Martha Stewart Branch punch, and put it all together on a delicate light purple cardstock.  I love the colors together...very soft but with a beautiful contrast.

I used one of the sentiments from Mark's Finest Paper's Poinsettia Blooms stamp set.  I stamped it on the cardstock with VersaMark ink and then heat-embossed with some tinsel silver embossing powder.  I finished everything off with a shiny silver bow and a bit of purple bling.

Have a wonderful day!

Christmas Color Challenge

Happy six days before Christmas!!!  Are you ready yet?  I'm getting there.  I was in the middle of working on my project last night when I got a call from my daughter.  She spent the day sick yesterday and was still feeling crummy, plus had a fever starting. She's a grown woman and her fiance was spectacular in taking care of her, but you know, sometimes when you're sick, there's nothing like having mom there.  So I packed up and made the 70 mile drive and spent the night in the guest room so I could hang out with her today and force feed her tea and crackers!

Anyway, my photos were taken quickly last night before I left, but hopefully, you can get an idea what I was working on!

Today begins week two of the all-new Color Challenge over at Mark's Finest Papers!  Here's the guidelines our challenge coordinator set up for us:

So...our color pallet for today, in honor of the upcoming holiday is Red and Green!  I didn't add any photos to my layout yet, because I want to save it for Christmas pics from this year.  I'm hoping to get enough to make a whole album, since I have a shiny new camera!  So anyway, you're just seeing photo mats for now.

I started with a partial page kit and then added some of my own touches...the Christmas trees, the words "joy" and "Christmas" and the cute little holly leaves peeking around the corner of the picture matting.  The leaves are from the stamp set by Mark's Finest Papers called Holly Jolly Greetings.  I stamped them with Black Memento ink.  I may go back and add some more in random places after the photos are added.

I hope you'll join us for the challenge this week!  Because of Christmas next week, the deadline to link up will be extended until Friday December 27th.  See you there!

Time To Wrap The Presents!

Happy Wednesday!  It's time for another installment of Purple Passion over at MFP Speedy TV!

Oh my gosh...only one week left til Christmas!  I can't believe it's come up so fast.  I realize it's because Thanksgiving was a week later than usual, so there wasn't as much time in between the two holidays to get ready, but honestly, I feel like I'm still recuperating from LAST Christmas.  Anyway, here we go again!

As I was wrapping presents the other night, I realized I hadn't made any tags this year.  I had some store bought ones left over from years past, but I made my own tags last year and I really loved the way they came out.  I started working on some new ones with my Silhouette Cameo earlier today, but for some reason, the patterns I was trying to use just weren't cutting right.  I got the tag shape but not all the other intricate cuts that were supposed to be on there.  That's okay...Mark's Finest Papers stamps to the rescue!!

I started with my favorite color cardstock...purple of course!  Using a basic tag shape and some of my favorite MFP Christmas stamps, I stamped onto the paper with VersaMark ink and then embossed in silver and gold powders.  The stamp sets I used were Holly Jolly Greetings,  Holiday Tag,  and Calendar.    I finished each tag off with some cute sparkley ribbon!

So...Are you ready for Christmas yet???

Big News At MFP Speedy TV!

Happy Thursday!  We have big news over at MFP Speedy TV!  The Scrapbook challenge has officially been changed to the COLOR CHALLENGE!  So now, you have a choice about what you would like to make and enter.  You can still do a scrapbook layout if you want..but you can also do a card or any other project.  The guidelines have changed to colors now instead of the type of project you make.

So for our first color challenge, we've chosen to work with the colors black, white and red.  The idea is to predominately use any shade of the colors in the challenge although you can also use neutrals such as browns, grays, white, cream, kraft, etc.

So I'll be totally honest...I was really having a tough time trying to figure out what to do with the stamp set I used this week.  It's the new Family stamp set from Mark's Finest Papers.  It's not normally something that I would consider to be my style, but it was a new release this month so I knew I wanted to at least try.  So I took the two images and stamped them repeatedly in black Memento ink on off-white cardstock.  Once the images dried, I used tons of Tim Holtz Distress Ink in Old Paper and Vintage Photo all over the page.  I spritzed the whole page with water and crumpled the whole thing up several times and tore some of the edges to distress it even further.  Then I smoothed it out a little and used the Vintage Photo Distress Ink to highlight the creases by gently rubbing the ink pad across them.

With my base page made, the rest of it came together pretty quick and easy.  I had some pieces of vintage looking ephemera from an old kit, so I distressed them even further to match everything.  Then I remembered a print my daughter used in a project a few years back, that she had made of a very old photo of my grandmother when she was young.  I haven't looked at the original in a long time, but I'm sure it was taken some time back in the 1930's.  She was so young and beautiful.  Of course I knew her when she was older so I don't even remember her ever looking quite like that.  But I know it's her and it made this difficult-to-make page come to life for me.  And now I love it.

Please come join our brand new color challenge this week!  Make a project, link up and have a chance at winning an awesome stamp!  You have until next Wednesday at 5 pm PST to enter!

Santa Bird!

Happy Wednesday?  How's your holiday prep going?  I'm mostly on track except that I should be sending my Christmas cards out and haven't even started addressing the envelopes yet.  I worked so hard earlier this year with my Christmas Card Catch Up project, so I have the cards made and ready...now I just need to MAIL THEM!

But for now...it's time for another installment of my Purple Passion column over at MFP Speedy TV.

So...have you heard the news?!?!  Pantone has announced the color of the year for 2014...and it's PURPLE!!!  I'm doing a happy dance!!!  The shade is officially called Radiant Orchid..but hey, it's purple!

Yesterday a friend asked me to make a congratulations card with a blackbird in a Santa hat.  I didn't ask what in the heck he was thinking...I just said yes!  Anyway, here is the result, and of course I had to work some of my favorite color in there!

I cut a speech bubble out with my Silhouette Cameo and then stamped it with one of the sentiments from the Mark's Finest Paper's Be A Showoff stamp set.  Then I cut out the bird on the branch and a little Santa hat.  I used white flocking on the hat to make it look like fur, and then popped everything up on some DCWV Christmas paper.  All of that was stacked on some gorgeous lilac cardstock...there's my purple!!  I made a black envelope just for something different!

Mark's Finest Paper Scrapbook Challenge

Yay, it's Thursday...almost time for the weekend!  I hope all of you in the freezing parts of the U.S. are staying warm. It's been SO COLD here, and I know it's been way worse in other states.   At least it's starting to feel like Christmas. Can you believe it's less than three weeks til Christmas?!?  This weekend will come in handy to get caught up a little...time to wrap presents, bake cookies, finish decorating...there's so much to do!!

Thursday also means it's time for another Scrapbook challenge at MFP Speedy TV.  The theme this week is ANYTHING GOES!  Since I've been freezing my tushie off the past few days, I thought I would bring a little feeling of spring into my layout this week.

I found some cute pics of hubby, daughter and future son-in-law from a few summers ago and thought the colors would match perfectly with the background page I made.

This week, I tried an entirely new technique.  First, I chose my fave stamp set from the new release this month, Butterfly Essence.  LOVE that set!  I really like using background stamps to make my own patterned paper, and this new set fits the bill perfectly

Next, I used some Gelatos by Faber Castell to actually color directly onto my stamp.  I used different colors on different sections of the stamp, and then misted a little water on right before I stamped the image onto white cardstock.  That gave it a very dreamy watercolor effect.  After I covered the entire page with the stamp, I let it dry completely and then went back to color in the butterflies and any other white spots on the page.  It took several hours to do this, but it was fun!  I felt like a kid with a coloring book!

It turned out a little brighter than I expected, so next time I might put an antique colored wash over the whole thing to tone it down...but the colors worked with my photos and I didn't want to take a chance of ruining the page after all the time I spent on it!  Next time!

I hope you'll consider joining us this week.  You have until next Wednesday at 5 pm PST to link up.  See you there!

Welcome to Day 3 of our hop!! Today, I'm using my very favorite stamp set of the new release on my favorite card of the hop!  I just love how this card turned out...very little work but lots of pizzazz!

I started by stamping the gorgeous image on black cardstock with VersaMark ink.  Then I heat embossed with some new embossing powder I got from the CKC show I went to a few weeks ago.  It's called Silver Tinsel and it's by Sparkle & Sprinkle.  LOVE it!  The image came out shiny and beautiful!  Then all I had to do was mount the image on some hot pink cardstock for a little extra pop and DONE!

Thanks for hanging out with me this week!

Thanks for coming back to day 2 of our hop!  Today, I used the gorgeous butterfly on the Mini Swallowtail stamp set.  I used a scalloped edge accordion fold card my sweet friend Becky adapted for the Silhouette. The base was cut in white and the tops were cut in my favorite color, purple!  Next, I stamped the butterfly from the mini set in black Memento ink and then used my Bic Mark-Its to color and shade in the image.  After it was completely dry, I used some Spray & Sparkle Glitter Varnish in Silver from Crafter's Companion on it to give it just a little sparkle.  I wish the photo could better show you the difference it made!  Then I fussy cut the butterfly and bent his wings up just a little before attaching him to the card to give the illusion of flight.  I hope you like it!
