Living in Color Scrapbook Challenge

I love color.  Bright, vibrant, vivid, loud COLOR!  It's so hard for me to use muted tones when I'm making a card or scrapbook page.  And although I love the look of black and white photos, I rarely ever even think of converting color pics before printing them, because I'm so taken by all the color!

So the Color Challenge at MFP Speedy TV this week has been an interesting one for me.  The challenge is to use Black, Grey, and one other color of your choice...purple for me...DUH!!  Haha!

Since I was primarily using black and grey, I wanted to use black and white photos but had to really dig deep to fine some that were already printed.  Luckily, my daughter thinks to convert color photos on occasion, so I was able to find some.  Of course, they're of her...are you getting sick of seeing layouts of her yet?  I take LOTS of pics of her!

I started with my trusty Silhouette Cameo and found a few shapes from their store.  I used a file called 12 x 12 Background Shapes to cut the grey pieces that are on the black background.  Then I used a second cutting file called 3 x 4 Journaling Cards - Love, to cut all the purple pieces.

I designed my own title.  The words, "Living In Color" kept popping into my head every time I looked at the B&W pic that had the big red pops of color.  I love that photo!

I used a stamp set from Mark's Finest Paper called Huge Blooms for the sentiment.  I finished the layout off with some adhesive black pearls, and poof...DONE!

I sure would love to see you link up with us this week!  You have until next Wednesday at 5 pm to join us!

What color will you choose?

Playing In The Glitter!

Today I decided it was time to play in the glitter!  Sometimes I feel like such a kid when I have all of my craft goodies spread out on my desk.  I mean, think about it.  Us paper crafters play with glue and tape and markers and paints and paper… just like we did when we were in kindergarten.  It feels very cathartic to be surrounded by the same items you were surrounded by in your childhood only now the quality of our craft items is WAY better!!

So I broke out my Glitter Ritz Glitter by Elizabeth Crafts to play with today.  I made it tutorial about using her glitter a while back and you can find it HERE.  The whole cupcake panel is covered in glitter and then has been colored with markers.  I took the photo outside in natural light, so you can't really see the glittery effect like you can when I take it under lights, but trust me, it's there, and it's sparkly!  I cut out a circle with my Silhouette Cameo and used Peel-Off Stickers for the cupcake, stars, and silver border.  I matted everything in black card stock.

On the inside of the card I used the happy birthday sentiment from the Mark's Finest Papers stamp set called Lighthouses.  I stamped the sentiment in Versa Mark ink, and heat embossed it with silver embossing powder, so that it would match the silver Peel-Off Stickers.

Have you ever felt like you've completely reverted back to your childhood when you have out your markers and your scissors and your glue, or is it just me?

Red and Blue Scrapbook Layout

Okay...I'll be the first to admit, I almost froze in fear when I learned we had to do a blue and red scrapbook page this week for the Mark's Finest Papers Color Challenge!  Me and red don't get along very well!

Me and red haven't gotten along in years.  I make fun of it, and it taunts me!  I'm just not crazy about it, but it's husband's favorite color, so I have to respect it.  I just find it hard to work with.  Almost any other color has shades and hues and you can mix and match them as long as the tones are the same.  But red is red. There's no such thing as light red...that's just pink.  And you pretty much have to hit the nail on the head, or you have orange.  Red and I will just have to agree to disagree.

That being said, I'm kinda stoked about how my layout turned out this week!  I literally spent about 5 hours just trying to figure out how to use red and blue together without making a 4th of July layout!  I finally found a couple of sheets of red and blue cardstock and just committed and ran with it!

I found some old proof pics from when my sweet girl was a senior in high school.  I can't believe that was 10 years ago! Holy crap where does the time go?  Anyway, they had been sitting in a box, and they were blue...'nuff said!

I tend to associate red easily enough with hearts, so I just decided to go a little nuts with the hearts.  It didn't start that way, but I just kept going and going! I cut out a page of them and decided I liked the negative, so I used it on the page above to mat two of my photos.

Next, came the heart balloons.  I was once again inspired by Pinterest, the devil and found a cute card using hearts as balloons.  I cut some out with my trusty Silhouette Cameo, folded them in half, used Zip Dry glue on the backs with some twine, and miraculously got them to stand up all 3-D like!

I gathered all the "balloon strings" and added a bow and a little tag.  I stamped the tag with a sentiment from MFP's Be a Showoff stamp set.   CUTE!

So slap something together that's primarily red and blue, if you dare, and join us over at the color challenge this week! You have until next Wednesday at 5 pm PST to link up.  See you there!

Happy Birthday!

Okay, so I've been totally addicted to Pinterest lately.  I may have spent just a little more time on it than I should have.  *Blush*  But I have definitely been inspired by all of the incredible cards, scrapbook pages, photography, food, food, and more food!  That site is dangerous!

My card today is one that was inspired by a card I saw Pinterest.  I thought it would make the sweetest little birthday card.  I modified part of a cutting file that I purchased from the Silhouette Store.  The name of the file is the Rectangle Petal Card Invitation Set.  I used part of the set to cut out my tiny little envelope for the front of my card.  I used the Cuttlebug Happy Birthday  embossing folder for the 2.5" x 2.5" little "card" that rests inside its envelope.  I finished the envelope off with a tiny little piece of ribbon.

On the inside of the card I used the happy birthday sentiment from Mark's FinestPaper's stamp set called Glad Glads.  I mounted the sentiment on my favorite color purple, and attached everything to a Kraft card stock base.  I totally hope you're digging this card as much as I am!

Happy Valentine's Day!

So...this is what our house looked like this morning!  Apparently the Valentine Fairy came and he was very gender oriented this year.  Either that, or he just knows how much husband worships BACON!  As he was leaving for work this morning, I noticed all the bacon buds picked off their stems, and I asked husband if he had put them in the fridge.  He gave me a sheepish look and said, "No.  I ate some of them and the rest of them may have found their way into my lunchbox to make the rest of the guys jealous when I heat them up for my second breakfast!" HAHAHA!!  So I'm thinking the bacon roses were a hit this year!

Here's the card I made for husband.  Short, sweet and to the point.  I used real Scrabble tiles, a stamp, and some Distress ink for shading.  I LOVE it when a card comes together quickly!

Happy Valentine's Day!!
