WOYWW #256...Oh How I Have Missed Thee!!

Happy WOYWW!!!!!!  I haven't typed those words in SUCH a long time!  For those of you who haven't heard, WOYWW stands for What's On Your Workdesk Wednesday.  It's hosted by the sweet Julia over at Stamping Ground and she's been doing it EVERY week for almost FIVE years!!!  It takes a little courage to do it for the first time, since it involves taking a pic of your crafting desk AS IS with no cleaning up first.  It's so we can all take a peek at what you're working on and where you work, and it's super great fun!!  I haven't been able to participate in probably more than a year, but here I go again!!

On my desk this week is some preparation for my daughter's upcoming bridal shower!  I found a few prizes for games that we'll be playing at the event, and wrapped them in gift bags and tissue paper.   If there's time, I'll go back and decorate the bags...I'm sure I'll make time!  Once I do that, I'll be sure to post the results.  In front of the bags, is the bridal shower invitation I made and sent out.  The one shown doesn't include all the insides with info, but that was all printed on vellum with a white mat behind it, and then attached with small silver brads.

A really long time ago when I was a regular WOYWW-er, Miss Julia sent me the sweetest WOYWW button/badge.  I feel very privileged to have one, and as soon as I got it, I started hiding it in my weekly messy desk photos, for visitors to find and post in the comments if they felt moved to do so!  So falling back on tradition, I'm doing it again.  This week is super easy just to get you warmed up, but don't always expect it to be quite so simple!  So...where's the button in the photo?  Can you find it?

Thanks for stopping by!  I'm going to go hit the linky list and start visiting my old woyww friends and make some new ones!  See you soon!

How to Custom-Color Your Candi Embellishments

Welcome to another edition of Money-Saving Monday...the weekly post to help you save money on your crafting needs!  Today's topic is making your own colors of embellishments out of Candi

I don't know about you but I love Candi  Not the kind you eat (although I love that too, but that's a discussion for a different day!) but the kind you use to embellish your paper crafts.  Candi is a footless brad made of a rigid paper material.  They come in about a bazillion different colors, but as much as I love them, I can't afford all those colors!  So I found a way to make whatever color I need when I need it!

I bought a couple of packages of Candi when I was at a craft store with a friend a while back.  We each bought different styles and then split them and shared since there were so many in a package. (hint:  there's a bonus money saving tip for you...split costs supplies that come in big amounts with friends!)

When buying our Candi the trick was to buy it all in shades of white and ivory.  I do this with the majority of embellishments I buy.  If you have alcohol inks or alcohol markers, you can color almost anything!  So, I broke out my BIC Mark-Its some Candi and a piece of scratch paper, and went to work!

I just simply colored over the whole Candi with my choice of marker colors...

And they came out awesome!  They really picked up and held the shade and intensity of color.  I also tried it on some Candi that has tiny metallic dots on them and the lighter colors still allowed the silver to shine through, while the darker color intensified on the silver.  I also had come ivory Candi with a kind of pearlescent finish on them, that held the color too, but lightened it up a little.  Those are the row on the bottom in the picture below.  Curiously, they made the color of the marker lighter, but made the color darker on the silver spots...weird but cool!!

I love having the option of making my own colors of embellishments whenever I need them!!!  Have you ever tried this technique on some kind of embellishment?

Just a Super-Sale Quickie!

For those of you who are Silhouette Cameo users like me, Silhouette is running two specials right now.  One is pretty good, and the other is AWESOME and only happens twice a year.

The first is 25% off the Silhouette Studio Designer's Edition Software.  I got this upgraded software a few months ago and LOVE IT!  You can cut all of your SVG files and even turn them into .studio files to save in your library!  You can find the software HERE and then just remember to use the code STUDIO at checkout.

The second deal is 20% off a Silhouette Store subscription!  I have the subscription too and LOVE IT!!  I have the biggest subscription which gives you $150 worth of credit each month for only $20...$16 during the sale!  That averages out to less than 11 cents per file instead of 99 cents!  Actually, they have so many sales on seasonal files, and a clearance section every week, your average price per file can even be way cheaper!  You can go to the Silhouette Store for more information and monthly prices.  Both of these offers expire May 7, 2014

Btw, I'm not a Silhouette affiliate, so I'm not getting paid for this...I just REALLY love both of these products and wanted to make sure you knew about this awesome sale!!  We're all about saving money up in here!!

My Last Color Challenge

Did you read that title right?  Yes, you did!  Today will be my last post with the Mark's Finest Paper's Design Team, as I am officially stepping down and moving onto other things.  My blog has been straying a little from it's original mission statement...to help YOU save money on your crafting, with a few projects thrown in for good measure!  I've loved my 15 months with MFP and I'm sure I'll be revisiting their stamps often.  They make a GREAT product!

This week's Color Challenge on MFP Speedy TV is to use Orange, Black and Brown.  I found it a bit of a challenge to use these colors without making something Halloween related, but I finally figured out how to make it happen!

As I'm sure you know, (because I can't seem to shut up about it!!) my sweet daughter is getting married to her love this summer.  I decided to use some of the gorgeous pics from their engagement photo session for my layout this week.  I LOVE the way their photos turned out!!

I started my layout with Tin Type cardstock from Quick Quotes.  I have lots of scraps from their warehouse sale I went to last year.  I'm sure I will have scraps from that sale til the day I die!!  I use them ALL the time and still can't make a dent.  Gotta love warehouse sales!!

On the first page, I started with a 5 x 7 print.  I think this is my current favorite way to do double page layouts...one big photo to focus on for the first page, and then a few smaller ones for the second.  I cut a few scraps into banners to flow down the sides of the pages, and then embellished with some buttons and square brads.

On page two, I added some more banners down the center of the page.  One of them has some lines that I plan to use for my journaling.  I had some chipboard gears leftover from another project that I decided to use for the bottom corner of the page.  I used various different colors of chalking inks, and Perfect Pearls to give the gears the appearance of metal rust and patina.  They have just a little shine to them too.  I mounted some directly to the cardstock and popped up some of the others to give a little extra interest and dimension.

I used a sentiment from Mark's Finest Paper's Dogwood Blossoms stamp set.  I actually masked the stamp off so that I only used the top half of the sentiment, since that part went perfectly with my layout.

Please join us this week for the color challenge.  The entries have been low lately so you have a really good chance of winning an awesome stamp set!  As a matter of fact, the set they're giving away this week is the same one I just gave away for the Hippity Hoppity Easter blog hop last weekend!  You have until next Wednesday at 5 pm PST to link up.

Butterfly Card Just In Time For Spring!

Remember the technique we learned on yesterday's Money-Saving Monday post?  Well, I finished the card and thought it was just silly to wait til Wednesday to post it, so here it is a day early!

So I won't go into any massive detail about the making of this card since you saw most of it yesterday.  I did, however, decide to use some Tim Holtz Distress Ink in Peacock Feathers to add some color to the white cardstock.  I lightly inked around the images leaving some white space to imply sky and clouds.  Oh, and in case you would like to try this particular card, I used Garden Art and Lots of Words Stamp Sets, both from Mark's Finest Papers.  Next, I used a white Gelly Roll pen to color the bodies of the butterflies and then used a Stardust pen to give a little shine to their bodies and highlight some places on their wings.  Some matting and a simple sentiment with some brads finishes this baby off!!

Hopefully, you can see a little of the sparkle in the photo above!

Thanks for all the sweet and useful feedback about yesterday's MSM post.  I plan on getting back to the blog's "roots" and doing lots more like that!  Stay tuned!!

Money-Saving Monday And A Winner!!!

Welcome to a new edition of Money-Saving Monday!   For those of you who are new around here, this is a weekly installment (and I used the word weekly VERY loosely!  ha ha) of all kinds of ways to save money on your supplies, storage, or organization, or to make those supplies go even further!

I would like to show you a trick to get a little more mileage out of your acrylic stamps!  This actually makes one stamp into two!  This was shown to me by my sweet friend AJ a few years ago.  It won't work with every design, but does pretty good with most that are symmetrical.

I start by putting a stamp on an acrylic block BACKWARDS, so that the smooth side of the stamp is facing outwards.

Ink up the smooth side of the stamp just like you normally would...

And stamp your image.

Now, instead of a detailed image, you have a solid one.  For certain shapes, you can leave it just like that, but for this demonstration, I'm using the solid color as a background for the detailed image

I turn my stamp over and ink it up with Black Memento ink, line up the images and re-stamp.  Now I have a detailed image with a colored shadow!  Come back on Wednesday to see what I ended up doing with this technique!

Now, for the winner of the All Postal stamp set from Saturday's Hippity Hoppity Blog Hop, the winner is...

Karen Ladd!!!!
I will be emailing Karen to let her know!

I hope you all have a great night!!!!

Hippity Hoppity Easter's On It's Way Blog Hop!

Yay!!  Happy Weekend!  Welcome to our blog hop celebrating all things Easter!  If you're coming from Theresa's blog, you're on the right bunny trail!  See the full list below if you're totally lost (like I seem to be quite often as I get older!  Ha ha!)

We have some awesome blog candy for those of you who choose to comment and follow each blog along the way. (and if you scroll down, you might just find some extra candy hidden!)

This first little cutie is the Blue Moon Creation Crafting Station 6x8 Peach Polymer Hoppy Spring 2014 stamp set.  You can find out more info about it HERE.

The second decadent piece of blog candy is a Close to My Heart Chocolate Affair stamp set donated by Janet Royer.

Now, on to my Easter project!  I made this card with my cute little grandson in mind.   I love that when I create something for him, I'm thinking about him the whole time!  It's like a big hug, even though he lives 2,000 miles away.

I started with a print and cut file from the Silhouette store called "Some Bunny Loves You," and then cut a circle in black on the Silhouette for a mat.  I used a Darice embossing folder (I can't remember the name of it at the moment, but if you would REALLY like to know, just ask and I'll find it!) to dry-emboss the purple background.

And then, when you start to open up the card, there's a surprise inside!!

The inside is a second cut from the Silhouette store called "Card Pop Up Easter."  I just LOVE this!!!

The flower box is 3D and has all sorts of cute tulips growing in it.  I inked the edges of pretty much everything with Tim Holtz Distress Inks and then added some highlights and sparkle with a white Gelly Roll Pen and a Stardust Pen.  Even the little butterflies are flying right off of the page!   I carefully used my Bic Mark-Its to highlight the butterflies.

I have my own blog candy to give away today to a follower who has a US or Canadian mailing address!  It's  the All Postal stamp set by Mark's Finest Papers with a retail value of $17.99!  Just use the Rafflecopter widget below to enter.

I really like the concept of today's card.  Sometimes in a stamp set, we get the same or a very similar image in more than one size, and I'm not ever sure quite what to do with it.  Well, for today at least, I figured it out!  I took the smaller flower image and randomly stamped all over my cardstock in Tuxedo Black Memento ink.  I stamped the larger image onto white cardstock and colored it with my Bic Mark-Its, then fussy cut it and popped it up onto my stamped cardstock.  I finished it off with a few footless brads, and mounted it onto a green base.

Please hop along with us! You have a chance to win one of the above stamp sets! Just comment on the following blogs (don't forget this one), each day for more chances to win! (You do NOT have to comment on all the blogs each day! The names are drawn randomly!) All six winners will be announced on
April 19, 2014 on the Mark's Finest Papers blog. You can go back and comment if you missed a day. (HINT: The more you comment, the more chances you have to win and comments on the MFP blog count twice!)
The deadline for
