Wedding /Anniversary Blog Hop!

Happy Saturday
and
Welcome to this month's blog hop
with
The Creating Blog Hops Café

This month's theme is... Wedding or Anniversary. We have made some wonderful projects to share with you and to give some inspiration for those upcoming summer weddings.

Our Hostess for this hop is...

Our wonderful Sponsor for this month's hop is...

Alicia is giving one lucky person a wonderful
wedding themed page kit from Mambi.

So, sit back and grab yourself a Latte as we dare to amaze you with our projects.

I was so happy and excited to be able to join in with this blog hop this month, since my daughter is getting married in July, and our lives are just wedding central right now!  We just had her bridal shower two weeks ago, and here are the invitations I made for them.

I used a cut file from the Silhouette Store called, "Daniela Angelova Bride Card."  There were a few different cuts, but it was relatively easy to put together.  Since the inside of the card had writing in it, I decided to package the card with a piece of white cardstock placed between the front and the text, so that you could get the full effect of the "bride" when pulling the card out of the envelope.

For the inside, I printed all of the information about the shower on vellum and then matted it with white cardstock, and used tiny silver brads to attach everything.  I really loved the way it came out!

Now on to the actual wedding invitation.  This was A LOT more involved!  We had a really tough time from the start, trying to incorporate my daughter's wedding colors.  She chose plum and green apple, which will be beautiful, but on a wedding invitation, it just came out looking like Halloween colors!  We finally decided to go with white and grey, and just use touches of the colors.  We used the plum on the inner envelope flap and the bow on the front of the gatefold card. We used the green by making vellum leaves for the flower on the front of the card.

On the inside of the card (sorry, but I blurred some of the particulars!) all of the wedding info is in the center, and is also printed on vellum and attached to a white mat with tiny silver brads.  On the left side of the card is all the RSVP info and on the right side is the lyrics to the song that Emily is going to walk down the aisle to.  I thought that was a super sweet touch!

If you would like even MORE wedding inspiration, you can see my post about the Simple Stories Snap Album I made for Emily's shower gift HERE,  the custom-made gift bag for her album HERE, and the food cards for her shower buffet HERE.  Thanks SO MUCH for stopping by!

Your next stop will be with...
 the uber-talented Sharon!

If  you get lost along the way here is the entire line-up for todays hop for you to get back on track and not miss a single project.

Thank you for hoping along with us today and I hope that we have inspired you to get your craft on.

Simple Stories Snap Book Pages

As I mentioned in my What's On Your Workdesk Wednesday post yesterday, I wanted to show you some pics of the Simple Stories Snap Book I made for my daughter and future son-in-law for their bridal shower a couple of weeks ago. It was my first foray into working with pocket pages, and even though I only made a few, I was super shocked by how quick they came together.  Of course, that could also be attributed to my lack of experience in knowing what to do, and therefore, not doing enough!

photo album, pocket pages

I put one of their engagement photos on the front cover but was worried about the corners or edges of the pic getting caught and tattered, so I added some Washi tape to the edges and all the corners.  I lucked out by having just the right colors to go with the spine of the Snap Book!

Scrapbook, photo album, pocket pages

On the inside cover I added a pocket that is actually one from a Smash*Book collection.  Emily put some of the food cards from her shower inside the pocket.  On the first page is another one of their engagement photos.

3x4 pocket pages

The opposite page has a sweet snapshot of them at a Seattle Seahawks game showing off her ring the day after they got engaged.  The opposite page had some "his and hers" journaling cards that we took out before I shot the photos of the book...they were already written on and must have had some juicy personal stuff since I didn't even get to see them! Ha ha!

3x4 journaling cards, pocket pages

The pages shown above is the reason that I gave it to her during her shower.  I made 3x4 journaling cards (downloaded from Sweetly Scrapped) and sent them out with the shower invitations, asking each recipient to fill it out with their relationship advice for the bride and groom.  I personalized each card for them before printing them out.

My daughter is a VERY strong, independent woman.  She works with others in a domestic violence agency for deaf women.  You can read more about her work HERE and HERE.)  She's all about surrounding herself with her "circle of strong women."  In that spirit, when I gave her and her fiance the book at their shower, I read a card I had filled out for them with my bit of advice, and then we went around the room, and each woman there read her card, and then gave it to Emily to put in one of the pockets of their book.  The idea was, that when the cards were all given, she would have the beginnings of a book of "words of wisdom" given to her by her strong circle of women.  She has lots of empty pages left, so that she can also ask guests at their wedding to fill out other cards with well wishes on them.  Eventually they will have a book  filled with memories and words and love from their closest friends and relatives.

Okay, I was pretty proud of myself for coming up with that idea!  It's probably not totally original, but the presentation was something that I knew she would cherish!

handmade pocket for pocket pages

Okay...back to the book!  The Snap Books come with three dividers and a handful of pages, but I wanted them to have lots more than that, so I cut down lots of pages of patterned cardstock to give them more room to write and add their memories.  My Crop-a-dile Big Bite punched holes that were the exact same size as the holes in the original pages, so that worked out perfectly!  I folded some of the leftover scraps into more pockets like the one you see above.  It's hard to tell, but she actually has her shower invitation tucked into the pocket for a keepsake.

Bingo cards, Snap Book dividers

The photo above shows one of the dividers that came with the Snap Book.  They were just plain kraft colored, so I added papers to them to jazz them up a little. The one shown above had Bingo cards I cut from individual sheets of cardstock I got a long time ago when I went to Beth Kingston's (spokesperson from Xyron and HSN) garage sale.  I cut the Bingo cards apart, put them in the order I wanted, and then Mod Podged them to the divider.

4x6 pocket pages, scrapbooking

The last few pics just show some of the photos I included in their book.  The one of my daughter, above, is the same photo I used in my Washi tape layout a while back.  The pic was the look on her face as soon as she heard a voice mail from a cute guy asking her out for the first time...and now, she's about to marry that cute guy!  How awesome is it that we were able to capture that very moment in time?  So I thought the addition of this photo in the book was mandatory!

arrows, Silhouette Cameo, Snap Book

The last two pics have more photos from their engagement session.  I cut two arrows, one for each page, on my Silhouette Cameo, using cut files I found in the Silhouette Store.

scrapbook, pocket pages, Snap Album

I had so much fun making this book for my kids!  Thanks for sticking with me while I was droning on in such a long post!  Haha!  Below, you'll find a list of supplies used.

Oh, and by the way, if you have any words of wisdom or know of any awesome videos about pocket pages as I start my pocket journey, I would LOVE to know about them!!!  Thanks in advance!

Happy Anniversary WOYWW!! (#260)

Holy WOW!!  It's been FIVE YEARS since the very first What's On Your Workdesk Wednesday was posted!  That's 260 weeks of Wednesdays, 260 weeks of peeking at what's happening on the desks of fellow crafters, and 260 weeks of getting to know amazing bloggers and crafters from literally ALL over the world.  Happy anniversary WOYWW and congratulations Julia!  We love you and love what you've done to build this wonderful community of crafters.  Thank you.

On my desk this week is the very beginnings of a new venture for me...pocket pages.  I have a couple of kits I picked up from various different places, but I've shied away from it until now, because I just don't know much about it.  It seems like it's so easy that I think I'm missing something.  Then a couple of weeks ago, I started a smaller book as a gift for my daughter and her fiance, and I was surprised at how quick it all came together!

I made a part of a "Snap Book" pocket pages book for my daughter and her fiance for their wedding shower last week.  I totally forgot to take pics of it for the last WOYWW, so I saw her this weekend and snapped a few!  Here's what the front cover of the book looks like...

I found one of their engagements photos that went well with the orange spine on the book, and then just embellished a little with two different shades of washi tape.  I plan on posting the rest of the photos of the book and saying a few more things about it in a day or two, so stay tuned if you're interested!

For those of you who like to search, the WOYWW button.badge is located in the first pic above.  Let me know if you find it!!

Happy Wednesday!!

Money-Saving Monday - Gift Bags

If you're looking for the Growing in Unity Blog Hop, please click HERE.

Happy Memorial Day!  I hope it was a wonderful one for you!  It was pretty fun for us.  We had planned a camp fire out back in our fire pit, complete with weenies and s'mores, but with rain yesterday and a little too much wind today, we played it safe and did s'mores under the broiler in the oven...soooo good!

When I started thinking about what to feature for Money-Saving Monday this week, I realized that using what I had without having to buy anything new, is definitely a way of saving money.  Well, that, and it gives me an excuse to buy new goodies when I use up the old stuff *grin*

I needed a gift bag for my daughter's wedding shower, and wanted to make it sweet and special for her, so I decided to use a plain white that I got a while back at the Dollar Store.  They were two for a dollar, so 50 cents isn't bad for a gift bag!

I wanted to emulate her wedding dress on the bag, so I found a cut file in the Silhouette store called Here Comes the Bride Set.  Although there's no blue in her actual gown, I needed a second color to show all the detail of the cut, and I just happened to have pearlized paper in off-white and light blue, so that decided that!

I used some white tulle to tie the handles closed, and positioned it so that it would symbolize a veil.  Although it's hard to see in the photos, I glued the teeniest tiniest itty bitty rhinestones all over the tulle, for a sweet sparkle.

Here's a side shot of the bag.  I'm really happy with how he turned out.  And considering the fact that I worked from my stash and didn't buy anything extra, I call that a bargain!!

Since this is Wedding Week, I've decided to link this up at My Craft Spot.  Have a great Tuesday!

Happy Scrapping! ~Amy E

Unity Stamps - Growing In Unity Blog Hop

I'm so excited!  And I just can't hide it!  Okay, enough 70's (80's?) music!  I was lucky enough to be the Unity Stamps Growing in Unity Girl a few months ago, and now they have asked the participants from the last two months to come together for a blog hop!  Woohoo!

We were given this week's Stamp of the Week to use.  It's called, Need a Squeeze.  It's super adorable!  It's one of the Itty Bitty stamps so it comes with an image and a sentiment.  The image has three citrus slices.  When I saw one that resembled a lime, the first thing I thought of is MARGARITAS!!!  I love me some margaritas!

I tried a new technique I've never used before.  Actually I've never seen it used before, although I can't imagine with all the talented artists out there that I came up with something original!  Ha ha!  I cut out a margarita glass with my Silhouette Cameo and then used the negative as a template to cut another glass shape out of plastic,  I colored the plastic with my Bic Mark-It's making sure to leave it looking a little streaky so that it would resemble liquid in the glass. Next, I added some Martha Stewart Glitter on the rim of the glass.  After all, you can't have a margarita without salt on the rim!  I colored and cut out the little lime to add to the edge of my glass!  Next I mounted the plastic piece to a white oval background that had been edged with Tim Holtz Distress Ink in Peacock Feathers.  That was all mounted on black and then some DCWV cardstock.  I popped up the little sentiment across the bass of the glass, and called my card complete!

Please hop along with us!  I'm including the whole list of participants so you can start at the beginning and see all the gorgeous works of art!

Money-Saving Monday...On Wednesday!

Well, Monday came and went...two days ago.  Oops!!   I should really plan better sometimes!  We had a bridal shower for my daughter last weekend, and had I been a better blogger, I would have pre-scheduled my Money-Saving Monday post, instead of procrastinating.  Oh well!  Here ya go!

As promised a couple of weeks ago, I've been working on another video!  This one is a little longer than the first, but gives lots of info on how to save money by buying and using unmounted stamps!

The stamps featured in the video were just a few sets I grabbed for a visual.  The first set is from Mark's Finest Papers. The second set is an Itty Bitty by Unity Stamp Co and the last three were all sets from Crafter's Companion.  If you would like to know the name of any of the specific sets, just email me and I'll find them for you!

WOYWW # 259: Bridal Shower Edition!

Happy Wednesday and happy Whats On Your Workdesk Wednesday!  Welcome to the weekly peek of crafter's desks all over the world!  Literally, you can see what other crafters from England, Scotland, Australia, South Africa, and tons of other places are working on.  It's fascinating!

Welcome to my mess desk!  I was in such a flurry of paper last week getting ready for my daughter's wedding shower, that I just started piling things up and going as fast as possible.  And when I went in just now to tke the photo, I realized that, not only did I NOT clean up my mess, I haven't even been back in there since I finished everything last Friday!  I don't know about you, but sometimes I have a marathon crafting session and then I just have to detox for a few days!

I absolutely hate to say this, but I completely forgot to take pictures of all the projects I worked on for the shower, except for the food cards below.  I made the bride and groom a pocket pages book out of a Snap Book.  I added a few of their engagement photos, and tons of extra pages.  It came out SO GOOD and I keep hitting myself upside the head for not taking pics!!  The next time I see her, I'll have camera in hand, and then feature it with more information.

Here's a close up of the book, but you can't tell a whole lot about it  :(

I DID manage to take some pics of the cards I made for the food table.  I don't know about you, but when I'm at a party or pot luck with lots of random food, I won't eat something if I don't know what it is.  Because of that, I always like to make little signs showing what the different dishes are.  And I notice A LOT more food gets eaten that way too!

I have the WOYWW button/badge hidden in the top photo.  If you decide to search, let me know if you find it!!

I'm off to go desking!  See you soon!

Happy Scrapping! ~Amy E

What's A WOYWW? #258

If you're looking for the Free Craft Supplies post click HERE

Yay!  Its time to go snoop worldwide at other people's craft desks!  Welcome to What's On Your Workdesk Wednesday!  I have so much fun participating each week so I can see what the rest of the world is up to.  I always walk away inspired!

What's on your work desk Wednesday

I have to admit, I have a dirty little secret this week.  Even as messy as this portion of my desk is, I had to clear off the majority of what i was working on.  My daughter is having a bridal shower this weekend, and I was getting some last-minute stuff made for that.  And since my daughter occasionally reads my blog (Hi Emily! *waves*) I didn't want to give anything away.  So you'll just see a lonely paper cutter amidst the crap!  Be sure to check back next week for some of the things I made for the shower!!

If you're into it, don't forget to look for the WOYWW button/badge hidden on the desk. Let me know if you find it!  I made it relatively easy this week.  Maybe you'll really have to dig for it next week!

Happy Scrapping! ~Amy E

Do you know of any other sites that offer free SVG files on a weekly basis?  Let me know in the comments.  I would love to add them to the list!

Happy Scrapping! ~Amy E
