Bridal Shower Bow Bouquet

So here's a fun little post about the tradition of using all the bows you get on your bridal shower gifts.  Normally, the bride saves the bows from her shower gifts, sticks them all on to an extra (clean) paper plate leftover from the shower, and uses it as her "bouquet" during her wedding rehearsal.  I told my daughter I would make her "bouquet" and she put all the goodies in a bag for me.  Much to my dismay, when I got home and dumped out the bag onto my craft table, there was a huge pile of tulle, a ton of ribbon, and only two bows!  How in the world was I supposed to make something out of this?  Well you know me...I'm crafty!  So this is what I came up with:

purple, bridal shower, bows, bouquet

I love the way it turned out...

bows, bridal shower, purple, white, bouquet

...and so did the bride...and the groom!!

bridal shower, bows, purple, bouquet

I challenged myself to use EVERYTHING in the bag, and I did!  I was actually left with one tiny length of battered bruised curling ribbon, but everything else was incorporated.  And the only think extra I had to add was some floral wire to hold up some of the "flowers."  The kids loved it and used it the night of their rehearsal, so I call that a success!

Have you ever made anything like this?  I would love to see pics!!

Make Your Own Journaling Cards!

Woohoo!!  The wedding of the century is over and I have time to actually get back to blogging!!  As I mentioned last Friday, I've had so many wedding projects that I hadn't shared because I wanted some of them to be a surprise for my daughter and son-in-law and their guests.  So you might get a little wedding overload this week...just a fair warning!

Now it's time for our slightly neglected Money-Saving Monday series!  Actually, pretty much everything this week was hand-made and saved tons of money over store-bought items for the wedding, but I chose today's project because I can see it working for SO MANY things other than just nuptial-related stuff!

Back in May, we had a bridal shower for my sweet Emily, and I made her a Snap pocket pages book for her and her groom to journal about their engagement and wedding.  I also printed some journaling cards for all the shower guests to fill out and add to the book.  It was one of their favorite parts of the shower, as each woman got up and read her relationship advice to the happy couple and then handed her the card to add to her book.  So I knew for the wedding, we wanted to do more cards for people to fill out and add to the book.

Enter, my trusty Silhouette Cameo!  I had read somewhere (and I'm so sorry, but I can't remember where) about making your own print and cut files with the Silhouette program, so I figured, why not?  The journaling cards I had made for the shower weren't quite as formal as what we wanted for the actual wedding.

So basically, here's the trick:
1.  Just put whatever graphic or font you want on your Silhouette mat.
2.  Go to the Fill Color window and add whatever color you want to your picture or text.
3.  Go to the Line Color window and remove the color (by clicking the first box that has all the lines through it.)
4.  Go to the Cut Style line and click "no cut."  Of course, you can always trace the outlines to cut if you want, but I          didn't need that for my journaling cards...since they were straight lines, I just cut them on my own.
5.  When your picture/text is just right, go to the file, and then print window to print.

journal, cards, pocket pages, scrapbooking

I added both text and lines to my journaling cards through the Silhouette program.  It was so easy!  Can you imagine making all sorts of other pocket pages cards?  Oh...the money you could save!!!  And isn't that what Money-Saving Monday is all about?!

Have you made anything like this with your Silhouette program?  If so, PLEASE leave me a link...I would love to see it!

Growing In Unity Blog Hop

One of the fun things about spending a week being the Growing in Unity Girl, is the fun blog hop that comes along later! All of the Unity Gals from May and June have all joined together today to show off Unity Stamp Co's newest Stamp Of the Week, Pumpkin Greetings.

I started my card by using one of my favorite things, Elizabeth Crafts Glitter Ritz.  It's a transparent glitter (although it comes in colors too) that you can stamp and color on without covering up the sparkle!  I did a tutorial a while back on how to use it that you can find right HERE.  Once my white cardstock was covered in glitter, I used the adorable Unity Pumpkin Greetings stamp set and Tuxedo Black Memento Ink to stamp my image.  Next, I used my Bic Mark-Its to color my image.  Any alcohol markers will work, but since I'm all about saving money, I love my inexpensive Bics!

Once my image was finished, I decided to fussy-cut some cute little leaves from a remnant of scrapbook paper I had in my stash.  I randomly "sprinkled" the leaves onto my image and then glued them down with Zip Dry adhesive.  I mounted my image on two different patterned cardstock sheets and then finished it off with some natural jute.

Here's a list of the supplies I've used for this project:
Elizabeth Craft Designs Microfine Glitter
Scor-Pal Tape, 2.5 by 27-Yard
White Cardstock
Memento Ink, Tuxedo Black
Advanced Tape Glider
Zip Dry Glue
BIC Mark-Its 36 Markers
Inkadinkado Clear Stamp Blocks
Jute Twine

I'm the end of the blog hop today, but in case you came across me by accident, (thank you!) below is the list of participants:

School Daze Blog Hop

Happy Saturday
and
Welcome to this month's hop with...
The Creating Blog Hops Cafe'.

This month's theme is...
School Daze

Those school days are just around the corner, and
we have made some wonderful projects to share with you this month to help get you ready for school.

Our hostess for the hop is...

Our sponsor for this month is also...
Robin

Robin will be giving one lucky winner a school themed scrapbooking kit that includes everything you need to complete a scrapbook as well as the scrapbook.

For your chance to win this complete scrapbook kit you must be a follower of each of the blogs in this hop as well as leave each of the ladies a little blog love by leaving them a comment to let them know how much you loved their projects.

So, sit back, grab yourself a Latte' and let us dare to amaze you with our projects.

So you know those plain old composition books that are always a part of the back to school sales?

I decided to alter one just in time for our School Daze hop!  Look at the photo below and tell me if you can guess which subject this notebook will be for???

Did you guess Geography?  If you did, then you would be right!  I found a piece of cardstock from American Crafts in my stash that had a map of the United States printed on it, and thought it would be perfect for a geography book!  I used my Silhouette Cameo to cut out a geo tag pointing to the city my sweet little grandson lives in.  He's got a few more years before he is school age, but since I think of him all the time, this is just one more sweet reminder!

I put some red washi tape on the back of the geo tag to make it pop!  Next I added some "air mail" washi to the side binding of the book.  I thought it also followed the geography theme well!  I wrapped some natural jute around everything and topped it off with a coordinating button.  Ready for school!

Your next stop will be with...

the talented Alicia...just wait til you see what she has in store for you!

If you get lost along the way, here is the entire line-up for today's hop so that you will be able to get back on track and not miss a single project.
